Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Jetta MFD Settings Menu

    Hi,
Have tried to access the settings menu via the menu button on the steering wheel.
Button doesn't seem to do anything.
I want to program up the door auto locking, reverse parking mirror, and generally have a look at how the car is programmed - make a few tweaks here and there.

Has anyone with a 2007 Jetta been able to access the settings menu?

    Geoff.
I have a feeling you are not able to do the programming yourself, I think
    the service guy's have to.
This is one reason I have decided to wait for the MY08 which will have
a full screen MFD and you are able to program everything yourself.
I may be wrong, let me know how you go.
    Neil.

Yep - unless you have the full screen DIS (as fitted with factory Sat nav) - you can't use it. As mentioned - next years models (MY 0 will have it as standard!

Bugger - might have to ring the dealer then I suppose.
Interesting though because the users manual sort of indicates that you can.
Have to take the car in anyway as one of the power window controls is sticky.
          Thanks...

              Hi Dion,
Sssooo, did u have 2 get the dealer to your programming?

Did your reverse parking mirror (passengers side) automatically dip when you selected reverse.

Mine moved a wee bit but that was all - that tells me the mirror should dip, but needs to be programmed properly.
I also need to get automatic door locking programmed.

Do the Jettas have dead locking on their doors (forgot to ask dealer). My wife's Astra has it. She pushes the lock key once to lock all doors, then she pushes the lock key again to deadlock all the doors - nice feature.

Not yet - it came with a couple of them enabled.

Mine used to dip, but stopped after a couple of days. Strange. Will get them to look at that at the 1000km checkup.

I'm happy with the other options as programmed - I don't want anti-carjacking or two stage unlocking. I think the Jetta deadlocks by default anyway, can't confirm that though.

                  Thanks Dion,
I suppose I could easily test the dead locking on the car when I pick it up this afternoon - I'm just a bit lazy, that's all

Does anyone know if the service guys use an extra piece of equipment when they program the car, or do they still use the vehicle MFD.

If they use the vehicle MFD, they might press a combination of buttons to access it - secret buttons, mens only business buttons, you know...

Be handy to know - anyone got any knowledge on this?

                    Dion,

Not sure if your mirror is dipping yet, but I managed to get mine to work. When you put the car into reverse, adjust the left mirror to face the kerb as you prefer...this will then become the default adjustment. Switch back to "O" position or put the car into Drive and the mirror will return back to the standard position.

Most strange, after reading this I went and tried it out.
WITHOUT having made any changes, I put the mirror selector on "L", put the car in reverse, mirror dipped!! It didn't before, now it does - weird, but OK.
Then I put the car into Drive, mirror stayed dipped?? it would only UN-dip when I put the selector back to "O".
Seems to me it is a bit confused, shouldn't the proper operation be, put car in reverse, mirror dips, put car out of reverse (Drive or Park), mirror un-dips. If the selector needs to be in "L" for this to happen, fine, but I shouldn't have to switch between "L" & "O" to dip & un-dip the mirror.

Thanks for that, did that today, works a treat Must've adjusted it to the same as 'normal' when reverse was still selected at some point ...

I was told, by a dealer, that my TDI has deadlock. All I need to do is to lock my car once and deadlock is engaged.
Manual says same thing, I guess it is correct

                            Hi Geoff,

You'll need to pass 15km/h before it adjusts back to the original position. I think it is this way incase when you're parking you need to move forwards and backwards. Bascially i figured you need to keep the mirror in the "L" position for it to dip.
