Hi there, I own a MY08 VW Jetta 1km FSI tiptronic which I bought new. It has done just under 31k and has been an awesome car - however in the last 10 days I have noticed that the engine sounds 'boomy' above 60km/h and then drones when I left off the throttle. The engine note has changed generally and even in top gear it sounds boomy and harsh (and drones). All the gauges look fine and the car is in 6th gear at under 2000 rpm (normal free way driving) when exhibiting these characteristics. These are characteristics which I have not experienced with the car, as it was very quiet and smooth to drive. Secondly, it has abruptly shifted down through the gears during sudden stops - it was in 6th (i do not drive the tiptronic manually it was in auto mode) when it would very harshly "crash" down through the gears. It has only done this on 3 to 4 occasions but again it is out of character for the car. Has anyone also heard or experienced these with their Jettas? It has only happened recently and I would like to know if these are characteristics of the car or whether it should go to a dealer for a check. I had a 30k major service in July 2010.
