I was thinking of getting a gti polo but the wait time is too long for me and now im thinking of a used golf gti .I want to know things like are they reliable after 3 years ,do they handle better than polo because they have better rear suspension, have more speed and power and can i reprogram the computer so no new polo cant catch me.Would it be a better weekend hwy country road car.

Best to go have a drive of a Golf gti to work it out for yourself, you're the on who is going to have to live with it and shell out the cash.
I gave up on the Polo gti wait and found a low km 2008 golf gti for a fair bit less than I would have paid for a similar spec Polo gti, and I'm glad I did.
If you're worried about reliability, purchase an extended warranty.
A chipped Mk5 golf should have no problems keeping up with a new Polo, chipped or not.

I had a drive of one recently and thought that while I thought it was good, it wasn't better than a Mk5 GTI. I found it was less well put together and it felt more like a kitted up economy hatchback (no offense intended). The Golf is definitely a level up. Also getting out from the back seat is not so easy as the rear doors are quite short hence the opening is not so generous.

There is a reason why the Golf GTI is over 13k more to buy new then the Polo GTI, Its in a different class and league. As others said the golf is much more of a regular sized car where as the polo is more of a small hatch.
Reliabilty wise my GTI is 4yrs old with 115k and apart from normal maintenance nothing has broken or failed.MKV GTI
