My only gripe about my new 1.9l golf is trying to find servos with the small nozzle to fit in the filler pipe. How do you guys get on... I am planning a trip to Cairns in August but I very apprehensive about going because of this filling thing!.... Should I buy a funnel ? Bazz

re:filler 'er up
What happens if you pulled that black restrictor thinggy out of the filler neck. would that allow better bowser 'nozzle insertion'with the truck nozzle?. I am more concerned about getting covered in stinking diesel smell more than anything.... Bazz

I don't know if the width of the filling tube into the tank could handle the high flow rate nozzles. The diesel flow would probably back up anyway.
Generally high flow nozzles pump straight into a trucks fuel tank with no flow restriction.Sep 09 PassatWagon|SilverLeaf|2.0 TDi 125Kw|DSG|17" Rims|Leather Heated Seats|Soon to be RNS-510, MDI, Skoda BT, Reverse Camera, Viper Alarm, Bluefin

No problems with filling fuel in my Golf. My 2.0 FSI uses alot of fuel compared to any golf diesel.. Which i may add is now in the repair shop for 11 weeks after a semi hit me.. I heard shell petrol won some award for their V-Power premium... I hear that in europe they only sell premium fuels? 95-98 or something... And i have now noticed the Shells near me have been replacing premium 95 with 10% ethanol blends. I dont like that move.... NOT HAPPY JAN

2.0TDi since Sep 05 - 50,000Kms and lots of interstate travel in country and city Qld, NSW, ACT, Vic and SA and NEVER had any problems with filling up - EVER. The only RARE problem is the messy buggers who dribble diesel on the ground and you get it on your shoes !!!
I just about only ever use BP (fuel card, lease, tax dodge!) but have used Shell and Caltex when the choices have been limited and never found one so big it wouldn't fit!

Yes I remember being a bit bamboozled when I got my Jetta.
Look around - Caltex now have dual hose pumps.
So, if you are heading to Cairns - you will get to Brisbane, then Mackay, then there in Cairns, so it's only twice you have to worry
I just ask if I can't find it. I've only once had to struggle to put in $10.00 to get to the next station.

Ethanol is supposedly greener, burns well, increases the octane, and is exempt from Fuel Excise. While ACA and Today Tonight (ROFL) ranted and raved about how Ethanol will cause your car to blow up, all vehicle manufacturers have stated that their products manufactured in the last 10 (?) years are warranted to work with Ethanol blends to (I believe) 10%.
Europe & USA are becoming very interested in E85 (85% Ethanol by volume) and most marques have E85 compatible Flexifuel (FFV) engine options in their range. E85 is widely used in Sweden.
Brazil is leading the world with 80% of all cars sold being Flexable Fuel compatible.
There are plenty of vehicles currently available (albiet not here) that are FFV:

Scott has something here too! The range on a tank full means you can get from capital city to another without an issue. (with a few exceptions like Adelaide to Darwin hehe)BeigeJet
