  • R32 MK5 - Which brakes to get?

    Hi guys!

I will need to get new brake pads soon and not sure weather to go for the Hawk Ceramic ones.

The stock ones I have on make a lot of break dust.. Would like to minimise that as much as possible.

Any one tried the ceramic ones?

They look good, wouldn't mind getting them.. Just not sure weather to go for normal pads or ceramic.

Any issues for on road use? I hear they take a while to warm up and sometimes noisy?

              Thanks!

I think the the issue for track type pads is the cold braking performance.

I would like to find a pad that brakes as well as the OEM GTI pad (they are very good for the street), but with less dust.

Achievable? I hope so. But good brakes generally means soft compounds, soft compound = lots of dust.

I used EBC Greenstuff before in another car, compared to the OEM pad, it was terrible with poor initial bite and cold braking performance.

                  Agreed.I run Ferodo 2500's in the S3[same as R32]
Good cold performance, very good when hot.
Covered over 20000k with them with lots of track use.Not even half worn.
                  Dust is similar to OEM.
                  Cheers

P.S. We've had some bad experiences with EBC's recently-wouldn't go there.

Remsa if you want the best performance street pad (650 degrees) without the compromise of cold bite or dust that you get with any higher rated pad. QFM HPX if you definitely want as little dust and possible. Remsa though are still definitely a low dust pad compared to OEM, and there's alot of happy Remsa customers on here.

Remsa to suit Mk 5 R32 are $139 for the front and $89 for the rear.
QFM HPX to suit Mk 5 R32 are $119 for the rear. Front N/A

Not always, alot of the dust you see on rims is rotor dust, not pad dust, and comes from pads which are too hard and not sacrificial enough.

Yeah that's pretty common feedback for EBC Green, we stock them as we're an RDA dealer, but by golly there's better pads out there on the market...

Sick of paying too much for performance brake pads? Want high performance with low rotor wear?

Nope to all of the above - never felt the need to warm up and cant say ive noticed any noise? When your rear pads get low they can become noisy, but thats a vw thing as i experienced this with OEM then swapped to Hawks

No brake dust is a bonus - just be mindfull, as they are ceramic they are more harsh on your rotars and will lower the life
