Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • R32 "Review" The Car Show Channel 9

Did anyone watch the Car Show on Channel 9 today?
They "Reviewed" (and I use that term very loosely), the R32 in what can only be described as a "Top Gear wannabe" p poor effort.
Driving it on loose earth (rally style), whilst guys with laser paintball guns try and shoot it..
It was farcical to say the least.
I am an actual buyer in the market trying to make an educated decision on my golf purchase. If I buy an R32, I can assure anyone willing to listen I would never drive it off road in that fashion. Yes it's nice to know it can, but it ain't going to happen. (It's not like she even hammered it!!!)
In my opinion they could have used that air-time to review it properly, say against the GTI on a Track or Streets, on its driving merits in it's proper environment.
To end the story, they concluded it was only 85% and not worth it's price tag..

Yep, I saw it and I agree, very pointless "review".

I agree that it was a pointless 'review'. It should have been called 'mucking about in an R32' - which would have been ok.

Have there been any reviews comparing the R32 with other 4WD mid-sized cars (the rexxie and others)? That might be a better review, or is that a comparo?

Either way, if I had the cash, I would definitely buy one in 5 door (baby seats and all that...) The car sells its-self.

I agree it was a terrible review and a blatant poor quality copy of the formula used on "top gear", but don't feel too bad, if you'd ever seen THE CAR SHOW before you'd realise that they know very little about cars and not to take any of it seriously.

When the reviewer said "the brakes feel really good...."(very good deduction there) and "the last model golf was crap" I was ready to turn off.

The oldest trick in the book is to pay yourself 10% (and save it in an account that earns interest) of what you make FIRST and live off the rest. That 10% will soon grow to be enough for an R32 (how long it takes depends on the income and your patience levels ).

Not as sexy as winning lotto but much more predictable.

Boring $$ advice to be ignored by all who choose to.

I saw the preview of the segment before the ad break,
ran to the recorder to tape it, what a waste of time.

                        why would you?
get on the road/track and get on it.
                        total rip off.

next week listen to the end credits music, and hear how similar they are to the u.k car shows.

                        half arse rip off.

even driving the BRABUS merc around albert park @ 40 is a cardinal.

next week: how many kids and soccer balls can the new Land Rover carry as we negotiate the precariously steep terrain of a shopping centre car park.

throw nails in front of her car at the next dutton rally, pull her head in.

Have been moving house the last week and have had rear seats down and parcel shelf out. Brings more of that great sound into the cabin. Makes it hard to drive conservatively.
