  • Wheels or Coilovers next?

im mixed minds if i should upgrade my stock wheels or suspension next.. Even tho i promised myself i woudl cease the mods since the Haldex controller arrived..

I havnt changed anything aesthetically on the car other then a mini antenna

Wheels would be Varrstoen ES 1.1.2's in 19x8.5

Not to sure why this GTI went 9.5" on the rears... not the best pics i agree

    Or....

    Bilstein PSS10's

I'm currently awaiting the weight of the wheels as i dont wish to disadvantage myself with unsprung weight - wish i could get real BBS LM's in 19"

I do the occasional track day and dont mind the stock suspension, but have read others upgrading to a coil system and saying they are a worthwild mod? Reason for wheel change is because the stocks have some gutter rash and well.. are on every 07' r32 floating around

I still have 2.5 years of extended VW warranty, so changing suspension my mind is playing 'devils advocate' with me...

    Cheers

    I would go the suspension.

the stock wheels look good enough on an R32.

I would go the PSS10s. Will be much more rewarding than replica wheels....

What's the offset on those 9.5s??

Totally agree. Lowered car on stock wheels looks 1000 times better than a standard height car on big wheels.

If you do track days, then the coilovers would definitely be far of more benefit and just get your wheels cleaned up by a professional, like Wheel Solutions, 560 Church St Richmond VIC 3121 (03) 9427 9265 (and possibly painted or powdercoated if you want them to look different).
Plastic bushes also help HEAPS on track days and doing this at the same time as the coilovers would save on overall install costs.
The serious guys in NSW are also fitting braces at the back but you'd have to be pretty hardcore to go that far IMO.

            Hey Nathan

Yeah coilovers as everyone has said, seems to be the way to go, but don't limit your options to PSS10's. They are notoriously hard. Maybe some KW V3's or a Sachs kit?

Coilovers next for sure. If you got new wheels you'll never be happy with them at stock height
why not go 9.5 on the rear (your comment about the GTI in picture)??, whole heap more fatness and more rubber on the road

if you are interested in comparative wheel weights, have a look through tirerack.com where the weights are shown.

I did my coilovers first and still on OEM rims, as lowering alway looks better than standard ride height. I think cars with modded wheels and rediculous arch gaps look a bit stupid

Its common to place bigger rubber on the wheels that spin, GTI being FWD i find it a tad strange...

The offset is pretty extreme, i wouldnt go that far.. They are german made wheels, not replicas from Bali

The R stock height isnt that bad i believe, have seen one with 19's and stock - looked... stock!

Thanks for the link but sadly no R32 in model of car field

They are $4,000-$5000 and not cheap replica wheels

Oh Team_v, I think yop are forgiven - a Tiguan is supposed to have arch gaps LOL

if you choose the mk5 GTI, that should be compatible for at least comparing wheel weights

Thanks to all that commented, made my choice and just ordered the PSS10's

6-8 week stock shortage so hopefully they are here before Easter haha

                              Cheers
