Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Std sized numberplates on Jetta - issues?

Noticed that the rear plate on my Jetta (just the standard 'big' QLD plate) doesn't fit real well. Anyone had any issues with the plate rubbing off paint or vibrating loose due to the ill fit?

Mate I've noticed standard size plates on the Jettas show up the black euro plate backing to either side of the standard plate. Looks kinda weird...

If it's like the GTI, there's no mounting holes from the factory. If that's the case, how did they mount your plates? With some good solid screws or pissy little PK type screws?

Didn't really notice myself but good point DION.

I have the "euro trash" customized plates (couldn't help myself ), so I am going to check that they will fit tomorrow when I do a quick inspection of my car.

      Sounds like they will...

Ah well I just ordered some euro plates - the wider ones for the rear (520 X 112mm), slimline for the front (372 X 100mm). Presume the wide one for the rear will cover the black felt, and the slimline will look nice and small on the front. You got the slimline or std size at the front tofo17?

They used some goddam big screws to secure the plate on mine!

Well pulled the QLD plates off today. Rear one had left a very slight mark in the paint on the rear, should polish out though.

Front one had no mounting holes at all, so it's just drilled straight into the chrome. Bizzare. Anyway, no marks there.

Hoping my plates don't take too long to get here
