anyone fitted an aftermarket oil cooler to the 2.0t engine?

Just wondering as I have a hole in my stock unit and there are aftermarket ones like this about

Volkswagen Golf V 2.0T > Engine > Mechanical > ES#1892558 Universal Oil Cooler - MM0C-U

Just dont know how much labor would be involved but would think itd be nice to relocate the oil filter housing to somewhere less messy..

There's a less messy place for the oil filter? They're about the cleanest oil filter change I have ever seen.

BTW that kit says it is a universal fit and looks like it takes a screw on oil filter rather than the cartridge type that the 2l turbo engine takes.

really? I guess you use the drain tool then and wait for it that way.. but I and every mechanic I've seen just drop the housing and **** goes everywhere. Its prob the worst I've worked on myself.

I'm not real clued on these kits.. but that doesnt really matter about the filter type right? because you're changing the fitting you just use whatever the new fitting accepts

I don't use the drain tool but I do move the little nipple off to one side so that it drains out of the housing first. It takes a couple of minutes and while thats happening I just do something else on the car or I go and get the parts for the car from the parts counter. I don't just sit and wait for it to drain even if it is a couple of minutes. Every mechanic I work with does it that way.

As for it not mattering about the type of filter used I imagine it does matter as something still has to go where the old oil filter was. The ones i have seen have always been the kind that go on where the screw type filter is and then the new filter just screws onto the housing and then there is just some oil lines off to the cooler which would be installed at the front of the car. That kit there looks exactly like one of those kind of kits.

That's a terrible explanation but if it is the kind i think it is I highly doubt it would fit w/o requiring more time and effort than it is worth to fit. It even says it is not a direct bolt on kit.

yeah i just hate the cartridge setup being where it is.. My old BMW was about a 1000 times less hassle and cleaner being able to just remove and drop in from the top of the bay, and other cars with screw ins you can just reach down from above and unscrew them with your hand.

I know HKS does a specific kit but yeah I get what you're saying about the cartridge setup and I dont know what it would take to fit a line to it

i have been trying to sus out a kit for my car with no luck as all i find is the universal kits and i dont think they will bolt onto our houseings but if you find one can you let me know please

Another thing is i dont think that i a complete kit as its missing 2 lines and has no fitting to bolt onto the stock oil filter postion so that you can run lines to the remote filter plate they have in the picture
