Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MKV sold to the first buyer

I know the title is stating the obvious, but wow,

I didn't really expect to sell my Mk V so quickly. Great spec, 99,000kms, $23,000.

Should I of held out for more cash?

Now can't wait for January to come for the R.

Yes, judged by the options list in your sig someone got the DEAL of the century.. Im very jealous indeed. I paid similar money for my Mkv GTI with not one option ticked and 105k on the clock.

What colour was it? tell me it was red, that way ill sleep better tonight..

So I recently sold our MKV. I made a few observations and did my research and found that there were a few similar cars on the market. I priced it to be good value but not a steal and it sold to the first person.

        You need to take into consideration the following really;

You would not advertised at that price if you needed more,
Increasing your price puts you amongst other cars that you need to compete against,
Many potential buyers are time wasters so a quick sale is a good sale,
Your coming closer to Christmas which is a bad time to sell cars in general,
If you lease the car, each month is does not sell is $ from your bank balance which you don't get back,
If you don't sell it this year, on paper it is a year older and Red Book will reduce that amount they value it by.

In short, I think you did the right thing.

I guess you would have sold it to the first buyer. Anyone before that would have been just a looker wouldn't they?

            Great feedback guys, thanks.

It was an end of lease vehicle which cost $18,000 to buy outright, so I was happy to make $5k from the sale.
I found the current Brisbane market had several 2007 MY08 GTIs with less kms for high $20's so I wanted to stand out.

jessv3 - the colour was Black Magic Pearl. Hope this doesn't upset you.

Once again, thanks for the replies
