Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Time for a service! MKV TDI 90k | Recomendations for Brisbane

    Hey Guys,

Keen to hear any recomendations on where to get a service done.
It is my first service since ownership
I live in Brisbane City Austral VW @ Newstead is an obvious choice but I thought I would get some other opinions.

The car was serviced at a VW dealer whilst under waranty but the last 2 were done at ultratune so considering them as an option as I believe they would be considerably cheaper.

    What do you guys reckon?

    Cheers,
    Dan

Definitely do not go to ultra tune (shudders).

Hit up Mike Webber at Prestige and Performance (coorporaoo - not far from the city).
Jmac (alba european) is a forum member and does good work from what i have heard.

Also, the Kedron VW dealership is said to do pretty good pricing for services.

      Hi Dan,
      Near the Brisbane city...
      Wayne Park might be good.
Also, West End Autos would be worth an enquiry as well.

But of course, JimmyMac on this forum has a good reputation and definitely worth enquiring. Not sure of his location, however. Or if he's a mobile operator.

Any of the service centres are probably fine as there's not that much to be done at the 90k service. Any would be adequately skilled to do the following items...

      - oil & filter
      - usual visual inspection of brakes, belts, boots, hoses, pipes, other fluid levels
      - brake fluid flush possibly, but depends on how long ago the last one was done
(some recommend annually, but probably no longer than ~2 yrs)

The only things to be aware of are perhaps...

      1. the apparent need for 505.01 spec oil.

I believe (and I could be completely wrong, I hope!) that service centres generally carry minimal lines of lubricants that cover a broad spectrum of specs and weights.... but unfortunately VW's spec isn't covered by most oils.

      2. if your car has a specific problem.

A service centre may not have the ECU interrogation tool to pick up on them, nor have access to make/model-specific procedures to deal with them. ....or they may -- that's the gamble. And they may just have adequate specific experience anyway... but is that good enough?

      3. prior service history of your car

Is it an Auto? If so, did it have the DSG fluid change at 60k? I get the impression you've had your car only a little while.

Hopefully, it will have had the fuel filter and air filter changed at 60k, so you won't have to worry about those for another 30k.

Cam & serpentine belts -- you won't have to start thinking about until the next or even the following service, depending on how brave you are.

Let us know how you go with your decision!

      cheers
      Peter
