Help! Prognosis needed

Hi all, I have a Jetta 07 Turbo DSG FSI. This morning the car wouldn't start. Tried to jump start but unsucessful so I had it towed to my local mechanic. I have been told since then that the battery appears to be ok and alternator too. But car still refuses to start. The engine just won't turn over. Mechanic doubts amy problems with the timing belt... Just wondering what may be the problem? If the mechanic can not find a solution, I'll tow it to denlo. Any advice would be great.

Mine had some kind of ignition/stalk failure early on (back in 2007). Replaced under warranty and needed both keys recoded. Could be it I guess???
