Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    today,

    my suspension started creaking

it sound like walking on wooden floorboards( you know that creaking sound?)
had 3 people in the car and it was after YUM CHA, but still sounded really weird.

very noticeable with window down or up.

I could not seem to find a suitable post that seemed the same as i am experiencing( sorry if i missed it).

can anyone enlighten me, or you should i stop being such a fat ba$tard.

sound a little like a soft version of cv jointeyetice. but not turning going very slow.

I have no idea if it continues at speed as i am contentrating on my exhaust note! sorry.

Mate...join the club...and yeah, you're getting fat. All those exec lunches in your new fancy role
It is the top end as tk-r32 sys. Believe it or not, they determine the severity of the problem by checking the amount of wear on the springs...apparantly they get scored because of the way they are seated and alignment problems. Mine is going in next week. Took me 4 months of "negotiating" with my local dealer using some useful advise from (i think) phaeton to convince them of the problem. I even had to give them the internal VAG Aust bulletin numbers!!! Try my first thread "My new car...and it's noises", I think this was where i got the info from the enlightened ones

Mine's started doing it also - Blur, I looked through your earlier thread, there wasn't any reference to any SBs from VAG in that one.

Do you have any SB numbers as I'll be talking to my dealer tomorrow (and taking it back for the 4th time to get the rattles removed).

I have noticed that alot of r32's have this same problem, possibly a recall for this as it seems to have affected many people

My local dealer didn't seem surprised when I rang them, mind you I think they may be getting used to the idea that I do my research - before I call them.

                    VAG Aust Service Advice

Here is the initial communication from VAG Aust to dealers in relation to this problem:

                    Transaction # 2012578/2

Fault description: Cracking noises from the suspension strut mounting when turning steering wheel

Cause: The bending torque of the coil springs can lead to tension in the axial deep-groove ball bearing of the suspension strut mounting. At a bigger steering angle this tension can be released in jerks.

They determine whether or not to replace parts by checking "chafe mark on coil spring". This issue was supposed to have been resolved from Sept '06 on. However, another tech advise was issued stgating that the problem would be resolved with "all '08 builds".

Guess what, mine is an '08 build and i have the issues.

If anyone wants a copy of the above, let me know and I can fax it to you.

                        Something else to add:

This is supposedly not meant to effect '07MY models (silver console buttons on radio). A few dealers say they will only look at '06 build cars (black radio buttons).

Stand your ground and ensure that they do it. Mine is an '07 with the problem and obviously so is Angry Shots....

                            Hi Blur,

Am in Sydney (called down for a company meeting) until Friday, I'll get one of my colleagues to check for me today.

                            Thanks for faxing it through!.

Mine's an 07 (Silver buttons), but Austral in Brisbane didn't seem surprised when I checked it in for Monday.....

Generally they have been pretty good with looking at everything I've asked them to.
