  • Changing High Beam H7 Bulb on R32

    Hi Everyone,

I have a R32 and thought I'd change the High Beam H7 light bulbs to Narva BluePower. Same voltage and wattage.

This resulted in intermittent light bulb failure warning indicator the dash.

I have xenons and to get rid of the warning, I turn on high beams for around 5 seconds and the warning indicator disappears. This happens intermittently.

I put the factory long life Philips back in last night and hasn't happened since.

Can't I replace the H7s without getting the warning light?

    Cheers, Michael.

Just on the driving light on my R32 Ive found it doesnt seem to make any diff to light output on the road. The High beam HIDs are brilliant and overpower what shines from there.
I think VW put it there to fill a hole

The new globe you are trying must be more or less than the orig 55w even though they state otherwise.
Filament resistance changes from cold to hot. It may pay to uncheck cold check using VCDS?

      thanks bazzle.

The warning indicator light was showing up on the dash...so may point to a variation in wattage outside what the car expects...

I'll stick with philips globes from now onwards.

I was trying to get a more white power high beam (& a bit whiter) but from what you say...not needed.

      Cheers.

does disabling the cold check disable light bulb checking altogether, ie. Is there a hot check?

Are there any vcds instructions for disabling cold check? Thanks!

            Thanks Bazzle.

I went to Autobarn to return the globes without the original package (discarded it without thinking I may need it).

The guy originally did not want to give me a refund as he said the bulb weren't faulty...even though the VW system said they were.

He said he'd refund them only if they were faulty.

He went out the back and came back with a strange face saying that the globe had shorted and would not come on.

He wanted to give me a replacement but I made sure he came through on his "refund only when faulty comment".

The shorted issue was a bit weird as both H7 bulbs did turn on...weird...maybe that's why there was a bulb warning indicator? Weird.

I replaced my original long life Philips H7 globe with Philips Crystal Vision since the colour temperature of the HID is around 4300K and the Crystal Vision is around 4300K, they look to be quite a perfect match, and it doesn't trigger any globe out warning.

Thanks for that. Maybe it was a Narva thing?

Narva are generally repackaged Osram so I doubt it, most likely a faulty bulb.

Cool, I'll try again down the track...but will keep the packaging this time just in case (need it if I want a refund).
