  • Stage 2+

Just wanting to hear from those with Stage 2+ tunes (ie with HPFP).

How is your fuel economy compared to say Stage 1. Much different?

If you get an exchange HPFP to go to stage 2+, and you want to revert a car back to stock tune, is a stock fuel pump required, or can you leave the higher rated pump in?

    thanks in advance.

    No change in fuel consumption.
There is a software change for the HPFP so I guess if you go back to standard, the HPFP would have to go....

I actually noticed better fuel consumption with the HPFP + tune.

No need to change back to stock pump if you chose to go back to stock map. The HPFP is there to meet the "extra" demands for stage 2+ .. and it only uses its potential under full throttle with the stage2+ map. If you arent using the stage2+ map, the pump will just work as standard.

We have a stock map that allows for the pump installed.

Stage 2+ seems quite an expensive jump ($1,200 odd for the HPFP). Anyone with stage 2+ able to comment on the gains they saw?

There is more high end power. You can notice the change, but I wouldn't say it's as dramatic as the stock to stage 1 change.

Not directly comparable but in my S3 the fuel pump and 2+ tune made the most dramatic difference out of anything.
It beefs up the midrange like crazy, really puts you back in the seat.

I am still undecided whether to go stage2+. Have been apr stage 1 for about 12months now and enjoy it, but looking for more now. I would really love to for k04/s3 conversion but out of my budget unfortunately. There seems to be a mixed bag of reviews of stage 2+.

APR is has quite an expensive HPFP. I bought the autotech HPFP which works identically with identical results and for 1/4 of the price. The only thing i had to worry about, was how good my mechanic was with installing this upgrade. With APR though, you pay for the extensive state of the art testing that goes in to the pump before it's actually sold. APR also have the upgraded stock pump for about $700USD as opposed to buying a completely brand new pump for $1100.

As for gains, you get about 10-15% over stage 2. Definitely improves midrange and the last 1000-1500RPM in each gear isnt flat like with the stock pump. Mine keeps pulling all the way to redline (7200RPM) with DSG upgrade.

Do you think if I was able to pick up a second hand ed30/s3 kit from the usa, I would be able to fit and tune it using the australian apr software?

I dont think it should be an issue. There is no such thing as an "australian turbo kit"... The only thing you might have an issue with is the plumbing because of the whole left-hand-drive thing (which im not even sure is an issue anyway).

there was an issue with people buying apr kits from the usa and apr aus can't or wont give them the software to run it.

Dead set?? Thank goodness I stuck with REVO then.

Was that a 10-15% on the dyno? Bang for buck I think going 2+ is just as good as going the k04 upgrade in my opinion because if I had a k03 I would be looking at getting a larger turbo than a k04 if were to get a big turbo upgrade

Thats the quoted from REVO and my mechanic. The difference between going stage2+ and bigger turbo, is about 5k difference. Stage 2+ only requires a HPFP ($500) and updated software ($200). The gt2871r turbo kit costs about $6,000 with all the peripherals. k04 upgrade or Pirelli with stage2+ is quite monstrous.. will run a low 12.

In terms of usable performance for the road.. k03 stage2+ is more than plenty in my opinion.
