Congrats on the Jetta TFSI purchase! Dark Jettas look great with Charlstons; it's a great deal to get these with the car. Did the car come with xenon headlights?

I can suggest a few mods for spare change, to do over time. You'll have to try launch control! Lip spoiler looks good; is it a VW dealer option?

Thanks guys, it's a 2006 model that my dad leased from new. No xenons or GPS, but many other options (leather, Charlestons, lip spoiler, sunroof, six-stacker, rear parking sensors) that I enjoy. I paid the balloon payment on the car to pick it up for a steal (between $15k and $20k) with 105,000kms, 12 months rego, new tyres and brake pads and timing belt done. No warranty though.

Spoiler was dealer-fitted. The old man wanted the bigger one but I talked him into getting the M5-style lip, which he preferred in the end.

Dad wanted something different and is now driving a manual, chipped Golf 5 TDI with A6 wheels, GTI brakes and some other goodies. Win win I reckon.

Warranty is still an option for you if you want it. You can get a VW USED car warranty for 12 or 36 months depending on what you can afford. Details are here - http://www.volkswagen.com.au/etc/med...cy%2012.07.pdf

Different dealers charge different prices, I used Southern Classic Cars - Wollongong, the person to contact is Jaz Hokin, and remember to mention the VWWatercooled forum for a better rate.

I've read of forum members (IIRC Cam on VWGolf forum) with the Used warranrty successfully claiming on aircon compressor failure.
The info you need is likely to be in the sticky thread at the top of the forum. It could be good for peace of mind, risk and possible resale utility down the track.

unlike the new car warranty unfortunately the vw extended warranty can't be transferred to a new owner..

This is very true. A friend of mine bought a low km VW with extended warranty only to find out about it. Kinda diminishes the value of the warranty.

I'm sorry but you are both mistaken. The policy is transferrable.
Please read the transfer details in the policy here:

Volkswagen Service > Volkswagen Service > Volkswagen Australia

                Transfer of the policy
If during the period of insurance you privately sell your vehicle to a person other than a
motor vehicle dealer, cover under your policy will continue with the new owner, provided
                that:
                a. you complete the transfer form contained in the back of this policy document in
accordance with the instructions provided; and
                b. the person named in the transfer form as the new owner observes all the terms and
                conditions of your policy.

Actually you're mistaken. We are talking about the vw used car warranty which is what you can take out if your current new car warranty didnt get renewed at the end of its 3yrs. I.E your car is 4yrs old and you didnt opt to extend the new car warranty at the time you can still buy this warranty.

Its the same under writer but the conditions are different to that of a new car warranty (i.e a 2k cap on parts) and also this big clause under the general conditions:

                  2. Transfer of the policy
You can not transfer this policy.

Its all in the PDF that you linked..

Ahh - I see - I thought you meant the new car extended warranty.

What's the plan for your Jetta?
Want to arrange a drive up north sometime?

It will stay fairly stock. Maybe a reflash and GTI steering wheel one day, but I'm pretty happy with it stock.
That, and Homer Simpson could count my remaining licence points on one hand. A reflash wouldn't help that!

I often drive up to Newcastle via the Old Pacific Highway, and sometimes the Putty Road. Could do something in the new year?

And here's a nice pic of the car. I took it on the weekend at Shiraz Lane, Mudgee.

I love that pic. Love the great match of a dark Jetta and Charlstons.
No wonder that design is copied so often by other companies. Always done in a way inferior to these.

All I would suggest, cosmetically, is:
                              i. R32/S3-stylebrushed metallic mirror caps, lightly brushed for the brushed aluminium look.
I've not brushed mine yet, but need to so that they are slightly darker/less relfecting and better match my wheels.
ii. Hella halogen xenon-look headlights ~AUD$500 from tuning-fanatics-shop, an eBay seller. Under $600 delivered. We should all arrange a group deal!

Pic to illustrate the mirror caps - taken from just off Wilderness Rd, Lovedale (Warraroong Estate), overlooking Lovedale, down into the Hunter Valley.
