I am the 'nameless, faceless mod' that closed down your thread.

What I am going to say is that there are a number of areas on this forum that you can head to to have a laugh, make some wise cracks etc.

What I have simply done is closed a thread that is altogether a follow on thread from one in another section of the forum that has been allowed to go off topic.

I think that there are times and places - for all things - and appreciate the contribution of all members. I have been around for long enough to make a judgement on something that I feel is out of place.

This is not a sub-forum, or regional forum, it is an entire web-forum that is geared to deliver people information and to have discussion on things that are VW related, and not, in the correct section.

Contrary to your opinion, I think that you will find that the user base on watercooled is many and varied, growing and amicable. If you want to create more forum activity, start a thread that interests you or that you are interested in learning about.

I am not going to apolgise for the thread being closed, and hope that you have not taken 'that much' offense that you will not continue to add valuable posts to our community.

I am happy to discuss this further if you feel that you need to.

That's the sort of reply that annoys most people. Very noble sounding but all you are doing is asserting your authority (censorship) where it is not required. What risk is there to simply leave the thread open? The whole site will get out of hand? I doubt it. However, I do suggest you use your role with a little more care. Those who stray usually get the message from other users not BB.
The user base is not really 'many and varied' yet. I hope it is allowed to get to that stage though.

I am going to have to agree with michael here, Not only has the original thread in the toureg section gone way off topic but there is no reason for it to enter into the MK5 section. The MK5 forum is for discussion of MK5 golfs and issues relating to the MK5 golf. Your thread has nothing to do with MK5's so is way off topic and the only place your thread would have been allowed was the humor section, as thats what its there for. Im sorry to be blunt but the rules are there for a reason and thats to keep order in the forum. And Michael was just acting in accordance with those rules.

A reminder

These Rules Will Be Upheld By Moderators And Admin
1. LANGUAGE. In any location on this forum swearing will be deleted or edited.
2. PERSONAL ATTACKS. Any form of defamation will be deleted. Continuance will result in the user being banned.
3. OFF-THE-TOPIC CHAT. Any chat that detracts from the origin and intent of the thread will be discouraged by the moderator turning the thread back on track. If the moderator deems it necessary the off-topic posts of chat will be deleted.
4. IMAGES OF NON-WATERCOOLED VWS AND OTHER MAKES. As long as the said vehicles are in context with the thread and include an image of a water cooled VW they will be tolerated. Outside of this the image will be deleted.
5. DISCUSSION OF NON-WATERCOOLED VWS AND OTHER MAKES. This is only acceptable if the discussion refers to comparisons or is in the context of water cooled VWs. Outside of this the posts will be deleted.

The rules above are clearly published and should be read and understood by all. We have moderators to uphold these rules and it appears that this arrangement has done what it was intended it should. The danger of posts or threads that either start in the wrong forum or veer off track is obvious. Nobody is trying to be "noble", only doing their bit to make sure that this forum is a useful resource for those looking for information on or discussion of their cars.

Admin fully supports the action taken on this thread.

The site wouldbe ANARCHY if it had no order or guidelines and the moderators would be useless if they didn't uphold the rules of the forum. So well done I say. I know a guy who can just never admit that he's wrong and NEVER says that he's sorry...........a sad way to behave.

I love that the forum is a respectful community and that there isn't all of the swearing and pathetic attitudes that you'll cop elsewhere. It is congruent with how I choose to live my life.

No doubt that Hewzie’s post was off topic in the Mk V forum and I fully understand the rules and guidelines that admin wish to implement. However, perhaps you could enforce them both diplomatically and consistently to avoid rubbing people the wrong way!

I was called a wanker on the open forum by one of the admin team a week or so ago and threatened to change a perfectly acceptable ad or have it deleted! I chose to delete the thread myself!

I’m sure we have all had dealings with the arrogant and inflexible Police Officer and hated it! Yet, last week I went out of my way to assist an Officer because of his pleasant manner. The same applies to the forum and people’s willingness to support the admin team by contributing to the database of knowledge
