Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • How to adjust door height ?

    hi all

need to raise my driver's door just slightly (about 3mm) at the trailing edge to make the top rubber seal fully make contact with frame.

There's no adjustment left in the clasp on the B pillar as it already makes contact with the top of the slot in the door itself. So moving that clasp up makes the door hard to close.

q: can I loosen the actual door hinges and physically lift the door and then retighten the hinges?

If so, I can only see 2 bolts on the top hinge, but the bottom hinge looks quite complex.

PLEASE help as this is driving me mad, and the dealer won't cover it under warranty as it's only a visual thing and past the 6 months period when they cover that sort of adjustment

Put a block of wood under door to spread the load. Lift with a floor jack until finish as required is achieved.

      hi bazzle

actually was thinking along those lines...except rather than bending the hinges, I was hoping to undo them and then lift using the jack and wood idea

But...I don't know which bolts I'd need to undo.. Could it just be the two on the top hinge (marked in red in the photo below)?

or do I also have to undo something on the lower hinge?

      please help....
      many thanks

There's actually an adjuster on the door side of the upper hinge. You'll need a 15mm spanner and a multispline 8 socket. A multispline is like an allen key only it has 12 sides instead of 6.

If you have them then you can adjust the door. Otherwise take it to someone who does have the tools.

          many thanks Rob

that's exactly the info I was hoping for. I'll have a look at the setup and see whether it's beyond my abilities!

          regards
