Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Park light oddities

I have notices a strange glitch (maybe) with my lights and need help diagnosing. This has happened three times. I have searched the manual.
    • 07 Jetta TDI
    • I drive with my lights on all the time (never taken out of the on position).
    • When parking I remove the key and open the door and a chime sounds three times with no warning light or message on the dash.
    • I get out and lock the car.
    • When returning to the car, the left (passenger) park light is still on but all the lights are off.
    • When I unlock the car the lights return to normal (on).

Any idea what the chime is and why the park light remains on?

check that your indicator stalk is centralised, to the left the left parkers will stay on, to the right the right parkers will stay on, the chime is to ensure you are aware that you have done this.

Just a European Safety feature to mark the extremities of your car when parking it at night.

I use it often...... Especially in narrow side streets.

It's been a feature of all Golfs, since the MK1.
