Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Fitted a HPA Short shift to the R32

    Hi all,

Fitted a HPA short shifter to the R this afternoon, 35% throw reduction F/R no side to side reduction.

Fitting: about 30 minutes (even with my lack of mechanical aptitude), very easy to do with clear instructions.

Initial Impressions: Certainly notice the difference in throw, currently still "overshifting" (given a couple of shortish drives since 3PM). It seems notchier, but you need to be fairly deliberate with the R32 box anyway.

Shift is significantly shorter and a reasonable amount heavier.

Glad I didn't get a S/S reduction on first drives or I'd be missing gears all over the place.

More to come as I get used to it.

Nice one, I have recently installed the EIP comp spec kit into my MK5 GTI (shown here) Such a great mod to do, oh and it'll loosen up a littl in a few days and become a little less notchy

Pity they don't make one for diesel,
Maybe parts are same for for diesel? Are they?

How much does it cost ?

Great choice I've had one in my MKIV for around 12 months now and it is a great mod.

        Cheers Al

I'm fairly sure the gearbox is the same, but try HPA's website below, they have a variety of products.

There's also an Australian agent who can quote you a price, but I called them a couple of times, they weren't sure of the part number, whether they had them promised to call me and I never got a call back - so took my business elsewhere (sorry, I'd rather pay more than get bad service).

I'm really hoping it gets less notchy as time goes but will let you know.
