  • 95 Ron? -mkv gti

I always use 98 ron in my Mkv Gti but last night my petrol light had been on for a while so I stopped in at my local Caltex only to find they were out of 98ron, worried that I couldnt go another day with out fuel I put a small amount of 95ron in. What are the effects of running 95 ron with our engine? It says in the petrol flap 98/ (95) then something in german which for the life me I can't translate..Will my car randomly implode?

the flap sticker means use 98 but if your stuck use 95. So your fine. just top-up with 98 at your earliest convenience.

Short term there's no real issues. With mine I find that it'll ping a bit and that the fuel economy drops about 5 or 10%, but it's quite OK for emergencies.

98 lets the engine run at maximum performance, hence maximum economy as well, offsetting any price factors of 95 over 98.

In summary, I wouldn't do it every time, but 95 once in a while is perfectly OK. In fact, I believe it'll say that in your owner's manual somewhere too (it does in mine), so VW think their engine management systems can cope as well.
