Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Engine wont start :(

Ok so i havent been driving my car for a few days due to the brake pads wearing, however i just now tried to start my car and it wouldn't start!! grrr. I'm pretty sure the battery is flat, but i'd just like to make sure on this forum. When i turn the key it tries to start but then it just proceeds to a rapid clicking noise, and then alot of warning lights turn on what do u guys think it is? Just a flat battery? this sucks

              Not if it's an R32.

The clicking noise (I've been told) is the relay trying to work but it's not getting enough power to it to work as it should.

So yeah, sounds like the battery.

I've always used AC Delco batteries for euro cars.

I know They are also the OEM for BMW & Opels.

                  Try Bursons.

OT. Are the batteries in the R32 in the boot like BMWs?

Yep -most likely battery. Our Mazda 6 did the same thing, but I hadn't experienced it before - used to the old chugg, chugg flat battery symptoms.
Out of interest, do you have an aftermarket or upgraded stereo, and do you normally drive your car every few days??
I'd be looking into why the battery was going flat too, no point throwing good money after bad.

Since the problem occurred on the 2 November last year, I daresay it has been rectified by now.

Some thread resurrections are a bit pointless.
