  • Which Tyres for Mk V Golf

    Hi Guys,
the original Conti SportContact 2's are coming to the end of their life (40,000 km's).
I've read on the site here some don't think the Conti SportContact 3's are as good as the 2's and others seem to give good wraps to the Kumho KU 31's.
The MkV is a 2.0FSI and the wife's shopping trolley but seeing my 16 year ols has just got his L's he will be using the golf as his transport when he graduates to his P's. (Don't mean to bore you just wanted to give an idea of what the car is being used for ....... no track days here, although who's to say waht my son will get up to when his out alone.)
    Recommendations woud be appreciated.
    cheers
    Phil

    What are you requirements?
    Long life tyres?
    Good grip in wet conditions?
    Good grip in dry conditions?
    Low noise?
    Reasonably priced?

You can't have everything in one tyre.

What size? 2.0 FSI is 205/55x16 isn't it? If so, most of the recomendations i'll make are invalid. Confirm your size & I'll have a 2nd crack at it.

CSC3 are better (quieter, equal or better grip) than CSC2 imo.
Michelin PS3 are also very good. Try Jax
Pirelli PZero (the assymetric ones) - Try Jax
Goodyear F1 Assymetric if you can get the 4 for 3 deal.
Kumho KU31 if money is tight at the moment.

        I had CSC2 (205/55x16) on mine & couldn't stand the noise.
Bought 2nd hand rims & 60% worn Kumho KU31 (225/45x17) and they were much quieter but got noisier as they approached the wear bars. Equal grip to the CSC2 but not very communicative & grip also significantly declined as they wore.
I've now gone to 225/55x16 Michelin Primacy HP. Very happy. Quiet, excellant grip, very communicative. Slightly reduced wet grip but I can live with that.
