Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Set auto-door lock when greater than 20km/h???

I just picked up my MK5 TDI over the weekend and noticed a couple of things that my mums MK5 Golf doesn't do:

    - Single press of the keyfob unlocks driver side only. Double press unlocks all doors.
    - As soon as I hit 20km/h all doors lock themselves. Once you turn off the engine and remove the key, all doors unlock themselves.

My mums MK5 Golf doesn't do this at all, which are features I actually really like and would like to set on her car.

Is this something that can only be set by the dealer?? Or is it something that can be set yourself??

If your mum's Golf has a full height MFD - she can do it herself thru the menus.
Otherwise, you will need VCDS/Vagcom to program the changes - 5min job.

      okay, I'll have a look.

It was the top of the range, fully spec'd model when we bought it, so I assume it has a full height MFD.

My Comfortline TDI probably doesn't, because the seller mentioned she had it done at the dealer, although I wasn't sure if it was simply because she didn't know how to do it or not.

I also noticed that on my TDI there are buttons on the steering wheel to scroll through the MFD display data, however, on my mums Golf she has buttons on her wiper stalk that controls the MFD, whereas mine don't. I haven't checked if the buttons on the steering wheel do anything as well.

You assumed wrong, only cars with a sat nav from the factory had a full height MFD until MY2008 when the GT sport, GTI and R32 had a full height MFD. Towards the end of the run most models had a full height MFD.

Without a full height MFD you can't do it without the dealer tool or VCDS.

You mum has a MY06 or earlier, the buttons and their operation are completely different.

And it's 15kph as well that the locks activate, I'd recommend reading your manual as it will go into detail on all the features of the car.
