I would be less worried about the engine. The main concern would be the 7-spd dry clutch DSG. Apparently, countries that have had early access to cars with the 7-spd dry clutch DSG have been experiencing a lot of issues with them.

Apparently the rumoured Audi S1 with the same performance will use instead the 7-spd wet clutch DSG box.

Almost 50,000km and no major dramas here either. As others have said re: twincharging - 2 chargers doesn't make it twice as likely for something to go wrong if it's engineered well in the first place and the 1.4 TSI in the Mk6 is now pretty much the mainstream engine.
If there is still some doubt in the back of your mind you can always get the extended warranty (which I'll likely be doing) just in case though that's more for the sake of DSG than the powerplant.
I also haven't heard of any Mk5 TSIs going bang as compared to the Mk6 and you'd like to think on the 3rd (or so) iteration in the Polo that things are being sorted and lesson being learnt. There's been a few turbo failures in the UK which I've read about though these seem to relate to the 103kW (140hp) version however much fewer than 2.0 TDI failures although the TDI is obviously much more prevalent over there.

I have to add, I look forward to taking the new Polo GTI for a spin, I'm sure they'll go very well!
