Battery for 96 2.0 Tdi

Hey all. I've been looking at different batteries to replace my DIN 65 LH. Among them are a choice of CCA batteries. Which, or rather how many CCAs do i need? supercharge 36month have proven to me good on price, warranty and use. The supercharge catalogue only suggests GOLF 2001 onwards for mine, though this lacks sufficient information for me.

Thanks to anyone who can advise how many CCAs etc I need for a 2.0Tdi

sorry. for clarification, CCA = cold cranking amps - it's shown on the battery top. I just need to know what I need as books don't mention 2006 2.0 TDi

Battery World have Varta battery that is 65Ah and cost around $240

I was looking at it, since our golf is 4 years old now.

Cheers Transport. I went to Battery World and they were pricey before looking at supercharge (fwiw) to replace the battery in my v8 Ford. 36 month warranty and $143 is attractive, but no specifics on the exact Golf model/type or CCAs required. I'm wondering if 600CCA, 104mins RC is sufficient max charge 14.8v.

My golf's varta with 70 ah and 340 a DIN is now 25% at nearly 4 yrs old. I still can't find a conversion from DIN to CCA though...

The 600CCA should be enough. But I wouldn't go for battery with less Ah rating, since that indicate how much energy is battery capable to store. You want to be able to start up after 2-3 weeks.

Go to Varta website and compare their 70Ah rated battery to battery you want to buy.

Don't skimp and buy a cheap battery, the Golf has a large electrical load and cheap batteries are cheap for a reason. Better to buy another varta and get 3-4 trouble free years from it than buy a cheaper battery and have to return it a number of times or find it's just not cut out to do the job.

Varta have two models and two levels of batteries for the Golf that suit. Note that the TDI has a bigger battery requirement.

Sorry to bring this thread up again, but I have the same question as Bushranger and after an extended search around the web am more confused then ever.

I'm also looking to replace the battery in a 2006 MK5 2.0 TDI. The picture below shows my OEM battery.


Having browsed through the dozens of batteries available (incl. Varta, Supercharge, Century etc.) I simply have no clue which one is actually suitable for my car.

In fact, after looking at Varta's site I couldn't even make out the same battery that is currently in my car. Using the vehicle search function, the page is even suggesting two different sizes of batteries (VARTA. The power behind. And beyond.) confusing me further.

On the Century page I can't make out any battery that seems to match the numbers on the picture I provided above (Automotive Series) and the Supercharger suggestion seems to be to weak (Supercharge Batteries - Car Batteries, Maintenance, Expanded Grid Technology).

Would anyone be able to pinpoint me to a few suitable replacement batteries? I'm looking for a good value one (either online or in the Sydney area).

Battery places will know by now which battery fits. Just make sure the A/H and CCA ratings are the same or greater as on your OEM battery. As long as the battery fits in and is bolted down, you will be fine. I will most likely use Varta in our cars.

Thanks Transporter, but I'd like to know something about it too.
The places I've rang so far don't really seem to be experts on it either and I don't want to end up with a battery that fits but is actually too weak. Which one of the two A numbers on the battery is actually the CCA? 340 or 570?

I went thru this same headache a few years ago trying to replace a battery on a BMW E46 ie lots of conflicting advice on what spec battery was needed, with everyone claiming their battery meets OEM specs but being different in size etc. Fed up with all of this I ended up contacting my local BMW dealer and from memory they were able to supply and fit (and dispose of the old battery) for about $5-10 more than what I was being quoted by the cheapest of the other specialist battery sellers. Just a thought but worth making a few calls. You might be surprised

Hi ABCD, Thanks for the advice. That's indeed what I did - but with less luck. Cheapest quote so far is $280 fitted for a Bosch battery, followed by $360 (Century) delivered to the door and fitted and last but not least VW dealer with almost $480 (just ridiculous)!!!

But apart from the VW dealer, I'm not confident that the other quotes include the most appropriate battery for my car. That's why I'd like to get a better understanding on this matter.

Easiest way to replace the battery is to go to your VW dealer and get a new battery from spare parts for around $250.

The replacement part number is 000915105DG and the cost is around $250. I had mine replaced last week (under warranty) and it's identical to the one that was in there (my old part number is the same as yours).
