textured colour coded door/bumper trim better than standard black trim???

I know there are a few threads on colour coding the black trim on the bumper and side doors, however, I'd like to get some opinions.

I know ideally you should either sand it smooth or use filler and sand it back to get it matching the paint work better, but does spraying directly over the trim really look that bad??

Surely colour coded textured trim looks better than black plastic trim???

I believe it doesn't work too well if you just spray it due to the dimple effect of the textured plastic.
All the ones i have seen done have been sanded first.

My golf is going in to get the front bumper resprayed due to a small scratch and I was wondering whether they could just spray the trim while they were at it, but it appears not.

Still can't believe VW used black plastic trim when other cheaper cars from the same year came with colour code trim as standard.

Black plastic is less likely to show damage for the europe market when they park with bumper's touching.

On the GTI's, it is a throwback to the Original MK1 and 2 GTI's that had the black lip adn wheel arch flares from memory.

It is also an incentive to buy the sport bodykit which costs 3.5k

I had a devil of a time trying to get anyone to do my colour coding. Most places I went to weren't interested. Too much like hard work. One so-called "prestige" repairer wanted to simply paint the panels without sanding them smooth. IMHO it would have looked awful.

It can be done...here in Sydney anyways. Yes, they have to sand it down first. Cost is about $350 for just the rear lip. Front lip is about $150-200.

I have had this done (by my uncle who owns a large panel shop) to my car.

All I can say is that I wouldn't spray straight over the plastic. It needs to be properly prepared and filled before spraying.

It looks crappy when you paint straight over a rough surface . Sanding will help a little but you still wont get a smooth finish.

It can be quite expensive to get it done properly but in my opinion its worth it!

I might talk to the guys spraying the bumper though and see what they say and how much they might charge to do it properly.

I saw a colour coded MK5 Golf the other day and it looked really slick, hence why I started looking into it!
