    Hi thefullback,
Darkest tint available. The tint people know what is legal and what isn't. No point getting illegal tinting as insurance companies love that (what's that, you had an accident, but sir, u ain't legal - bye bye)

I was going to get the Sportline TDi, but went for the Jetta because of the boot space. No more sardines in a tin went driving interstate

Hope you enjoy your car m8 and your tinting - if u can write the tinting cost off on a lease, it's a no brainer to roll it in on pre-delivery.

Interesting to know, though at this stage I am only probably going to Zymol the car.
I've put clear bra (Ventureshield) on a couple of my cars, but not the Golf. Both the cars I did have metallic paint and are used for fast convoy driving - the bra is essential for this sort of work. I'd be less worried on a cheaper car and/or one with solid paint which is easier to touch up.

The clear bra is very effective. On one recent trip to the NT with a few other cars, the cars with clear bras were spotless and the ones without needed serious paintwork due to chipping and sandblasting. This was after some pretty "intense" driving though.

BTW, I used Invisible Car Bras in Melbourne and was very happy with their work.

        Hi mhh,

Have sent Invisible Car Bras an email - just to see what's involved.

I can see the benefit of this product listed by yourself and neil. If they are local (which they are) it is great to be able to drop in and have a look. Also, if ppl have used the product and highly recommend it then that is also a bonus.

        Will keep you posted.

geoffp OOOh, and me too ..
Definitely keen to find out a bit more about this.
          Specifically cost for Jetta's....

Definitely appears im in the minority here with regards to the tinting.. Im likely to get it done after taking delivery.

I had my car tinting done at the dealership before delivery of my previous other cars. But with my Jetta, I decided to have it done after I took delivery. I was told that the type of tint that was being used was mainly metallic and I did not want this as it interferes with the AM radio reception if your car's antennae is embedded at the rear windshield.

As I was waiting for delivery of my Jetta, I phoned around some tinting shops here in Sydney to get an idea of the prices. I was told by the shops I called that I was doing the right thing by having this installed after delivery as dealers would normally charge you much more than if you have the tinting done yourself directly with the tinting shops.

I found a type of tint that was not mettalic that looked really good with the Jetta at Solar Tint. I also found out that even with the same companies, in this case Solar Tint, the prices differ depending on the location. I checked with two Solar Tint branches and one of them quoted me a price which was $40 cheaper for the same type of tint. Needless to say, I went with hte cheaper one with all conditions the same (lifetime warranty, etc.).

And yes, the price I paid for the Jetta tinting was much cheaper than the price I paid for tinting my other cars by the dealers themselves.

Mine has lifetime warranty and top of the line product so I know that this will not develop pimples later. I know that there are some that install metallic tint on all windows except the rear winndshield. I hope they did not do it on yours.

bacong - Hey , thanks for the feedback regarding the tinting. I am aware of the issue with regards to the metallic tint for the back window- dealership mentioned it to me. They stated that an option would be to have a non metallic film for the back window and metallic for side windows.
Can I ask which specific tint you went for ?
I just had a look on their website. ..sydney only ..drats.
Im not too fussed about lifetime warranty, seems to me in melb, pretty much everyone offers this feature. Im certainly not planning to keep the Jetta for a lifetime.

                    Hi trippyfoo.

The tint that I had installed is called charcool which is a 3m product. I would think that any car tinting company that carries 3m products in Melbourne would have this type. Hope you find it.

BTW, lifetime warranties only go as long as you own the car. Once you sell it it's gone. It does not extend to the buyer of the car.

Has anyone with a Jetta put a metallic tint on the back window.

I used to have a Renault Laguna (had the embedded rear window antenna), made the mistake of putting a metallic tint on the rear window, my AM reception was crap (could hardly listen to the cricket).

I am putting the ICT metallic tint on my Jetta, can't believe I am "almost" making the same mistake again

DSGTI -Hey . . i've got an idea .. Let's see if we can get a price for 2xcars window tinting . .. or perhaps more if there's any other fellow melbournians ... I'll give some of the shops a holler in the next several days.
Though I would only be able to tint once i get the car. . . so next 2 weeks perhaps. . .?

                            Got my tinting sorted out.
ICT metallic on side windows, NON metallic on rear window - dealer was already onto it - good to see they just weren't 'dumbly' (is that a word ) throwing it on every window.

                              ahh , good job there.
Well, its their job to know these things, particularly if it means you won't be hassling them for radio reception during the cricket season in particular.
