Questions about VAG-COM for Mk V 2.0TDI ?

What type of VAG-COM cable / kit is suitable for a Golf Mk5 2.0 TDi ?
Is there a specific software needed? tp read and alter settings? Does this type of kit have all the info needed for the type of changes that can be done with the remote key , monitoring air flow, engine temps. etc.
Do the inexpensive cable kits seen on Ebay enable this?

Personally, I'd stay away from the cables offered on ebay. From what I know many of them don't come with software. They work with VCDS software but on reduced functionality and only on older unsupported versions of VCDS due to the software's ability to detect a genuine cable, which most will not be.

Others may have had better luck with some of these and perhaps can recommend??

If you are going to use live data , adapt, reset and recode its best use VAG5054 or VCDS from Ross tech, no question, cheap ebay items will give you what you pay for. If you want something to monitor engine data only you will waste your money on VCDS mate. I run a VW, Audi and Porsche business mate and need this , its pretty much like my right arm really but i code up new ecus, and do diagnostics day in day out so woulnd be without it, if you are going to readapt your door locks and just monitor basic engine data Vchecker or the likes is the go for you. I cant speak highly enough about VCDS it one of the most used tools in my kit but its dangerous in the wrong hands ( thats why im so busy!!!!)
