For me - 5 door - but, I have a 15 year old son who's a 6 footer, my wife is 5'11, my 12 year old is 5'10 and I'm 6'2. Plus I have the Recaros, which don't tilt/slide. Sorry for the lack of metricity but I find it easier to imagine people's height the old way.

3 door, just my personal opinion, look a little "heavy" in the rear end.

As someone said very early in the thread, comes down to persoanl taste, and what (or who) you need to carry.

I think everyone agrees. Buy whatever you need. There is no wrong car, maybe just a wrong personal choice is possible. So then sell and buy the right model. Simple.
I saw my local VW salesman out driving in their R32 5-door today. It was raining and I am sure I saw a big smile on his young face. As I'd expect, too. I think he was out 'hunting'. n:

Personally I'd always go with a 3 door, because I think they look better. The GTi and R32 are a sports variant, I think they should only be in 3 door. But thats my oppinion.

In a sportier car you're more likely to throw it around and that wouldn't be good for passenger comfort.

I think it's silly to buy a 5 door R32 saying it's because you want to move lots of people quickly as the passengers will most likely find the rushed ride uncomfortable. Likewise if you bought one to fit your kids/baby in the back...

agree with ausgolfer....except for the kids theory: My 31/2 yo (26yo????) can't wait to climb in the back, up into her seat, put the harness on and yell "Daddy, can you push the vroom vroom stick and make that fast noise!"

Does too, if you squint. It screams Corolla. Does it look more like an Audi TT? No. A standard Golf is an old shape. I still like it, of course, but a 55 grand R32 doesn't have a WOW factor built into its shape. I want one.

Look, don't get stressed. Corollas are top sellers and I would even add that the very latest model looks damn sharp. DAMN SHARP. But I would never buy one. I know we are all one-eyed, thats the forum-thang happening, but ask any outsider what they think of the great Golf style, and they will probably laugh at you. I mean, we like it, maybe you love it, but lets be realistic here. Its a hatch...in the historical sense. In fact, I just invited the receptionist in and asked her how spunky the blue R32 looks...... "its ok" and then it was "FUKK OFF" when I told her the price! (She's from the bush, so the language is normal). That's just how it is. I can live with that, cos she aint ever getting into my Golf, whenever I make up my mind which model to buy!!!!

I may well have the same optician as Tim's girlfriend!
This forum doesn't exactly go off does it? I mean I try and be provocative and it hardly raises an eyebrow. Do I need to write about great deals on window-tinting to excite you people? Do I have to ask why the Astra diesel is more popular and sportier-looking than the Golf? For christsake lets not forget the war!!!
...ok, so I am away at work in the bush for 7 more days and I'm bored. I'm not apologising, just explaining. Where's that lunatic driver Panman when I need him?

                            Panman's here!....

I agree with Hewzie, (Shock, Panman takes time off from tarmac terrorism to agree with Hewzie! ), The Golf isn't an exciting shape (especially when you consider the cost of the R32).

Hate to say it, but the MK 4 R32 stood out more from the rest of the Golf family (and remember the R32 doesn't even have a golf badge on it).

If the R32 looked like the new Sirroco concept then it'd look more exciting....

As for anything looking good if you stare at it long enough, you haven't met my mother-in-law.

Ha ha, support from the most unlikely source.
The cussing receptionist told me something yesterday that has had me thinking all morning. And surprisingly, I agree with her. The hottest looking hatch, shape-wise only, has got to be the Suzuki. It's been bothering me for a while now but I can see enormous potential in that car. I'll never buy one but it sort of gets back to the roots of hatch principles, small, spunky and cheap. If it gets performance, then that is a real bonus.
Am I alone here or have some of you naughty golf-freaks been eyeing off that lil suzy, too? (Good for the missus, maybe?)

There is a hot little suzy in town. Bright yellow with the factory kit that is highlighted in black with a tough set of 18's on it...in black to match body kit. This thing looks hot!

The new Clio 197 and the (cough) Vauxhal Corsa VXR also look fantastic...just not out here. I still have a thing for booty, so the Megane Cup also does it for me, especially in limited edition F1 blue....but the winner surely has to be .......

Renault Clio V6 MkII....that was one tough looking little car!
