Does TDI 2.0 Have a Torque-limiting Device in 1st Gear?
Does TDI 2.0 Have a Torque-limiting Device in 1st Gear?
My recently acquired 2006 TDI 2.0 Golf Manual seems to have restricted accelerator travel in 1st Gear. Is this a normal trait? It struck me this might be a torque limiting device to save stress on the gbox. It seems to have much more pedal in higher gears.

Physical pedal wise, no. It's just 2 rheostats and a switch.
But the gearbox will limit somewhere around 395Nm (rumours have it between 380 and 400ish). It limits by instructing the engine to cut power. You can watch the torque limit on measuring block 8.3 on the engine controller.
At least, that is the case with my car (MY07 Jetta BKD 02E).
