  • Does TDI 2.0 Have a Torque-limiting Device in 1st Gear?

My recently acquired 2006 TDI 2.0 Golf Manual seems to have restricted accelerator travel in 1st Gear. Is this a normal trait? It struck me this might be a torque limiting device to save stress on the gbox. It seems to have much more pedal in higher gears.

My 08 GT does the same. We all seem to agree that it is.

However in neutral it goes as far as you want.

Physical pedal wise, no. It's just 2 rheostats and a switch.

But the gearbox will limit somewhere around 395Nm (rumours have it between 380 and 400ish). It limits by instructing the engine to cut power. You can watch the torque limit on measuring block 8.3 on the engine controller.

At least, that is the case with my car (MY07 Jetta BKD 02E).
