  • ECS Resonator delete on r32 or other option???

Hey all, so i finally got my self a late model 08 R32 in silver. Ive already got the Haldex controller, Ferrodo pads and some sweet Michelin Pilot Sports, but im wanting to get a bit more note from the car.

Im looking into the ECS Tuning resonator delete pipe, as im not wanting to blow more cash on a full exhaust system atm. But shipping is $$$. So has anyone got one of these on their R32?

Or can i just goto my local exhaust place and get them to make me up a resonator straight pipe for cheaper?

    Cheers

Hey tim_sugar, did you end up getting the ecs pipe? If so how does it sound?

It's a mkv R32 (nice car) and you want to chop resonators out like its a 1.8L mazda?

There are cheaper options (Magnaflow etc) which is still good gear without the price premium of the more expensive stuff. Then you have Supersprint, Milltek, Neuspeed, APR, AWE, Techtonics.....heaps of decent systems.

Save and buy a heap of things at once if the cost of shipping bugs you.
You have saved enough to get to owning a mkv R32. Ie have patience.
Use the same patience and get some decent gear first time round......

there is quite abit of restriction in the OEM exhaust, would suggest replacing the whole thing - plus removing resonator does increase drone but you can get around that by playing with the 6spd

I do have to confess, I have heard a supercharged mk4 with the "pancake delete". was cats to one resonator and then the tips. It was ****ing loud, ****ing raspy and ****ing hot!!! Owner claimed power was better with this system than a Techtonics 2.5". Though I'd suggest track use only

Hey yea i did end up getting this. Ive had it on for a few months now and love it. it can be loud on 1st and 2nd then just shuts off to normal the rest of the gears until you give it some and it opens up all of a sudden again like a ferrari. Its good with the dsg as you can play with the noise a bit and it can yell like crazy then crack and pop on the downshift, sounds orgasmic to say the least.

Sounds good i need more volume I just worry about drone in the cabin. I like the oem sound its just too quiet, but I cant stand drone. Did you do it yourself? If not what did you pay for labor. Also, why do we need this piece, why cant I get an exhaust guy to just stick a bit of mild steel in there?

Its really not too drony at all, some might think so, but i dont think its too bad, you cant expect to have an exhaust without a little drone at some points in the gearing. But when you firmly put your foot you will know about it....aswell as everyone else nearby. I got it done by a mate at German Autohaus for free, you could prob take it there and they will do it quick id say.

Sounds good except I am in Adelaide. I got quoted $220 just to replace the resonator with mild steel, I think its a rip off. Any chance you could put some vids up on youtube with sounds?

Cheers. What about at cruising speeds between 100-130, is it droney then? Just thinking about country/freeway driving.

Hmm i mean its obviously louder than the standard exhaust so there is a bit of drone, but i just have tunes on so you cant really hear it anyway.

I am just really bored with the stock sound. Its just too quiet even with the flappa mod. I might have to do this. People over in MKV.com have been replacing the stock resonator with an aftermarket one. Maybe that would be good. I wonder if anyone in Adelaide has done this so I cold have a listen? Probably not likely, after all we are the city of churches apparantely, (even tho there are more churches in Melbourne).

I would be keen to do this mod too. If you delete the resonator can you put it back after? Any response gains?
