I had a similar experience with Essendon VW and so did my cousin with disgusting service. I walked in saying I was thinking about upgrading to the new GTI, and the mole there didnt give me the time of day until I showed her my current GTI after she insisted to see it. At the end of the day, I test drove the new GTI and walked out making her think she was on to a sale.

When I picked up the car I also voiced my grievances with the service I received. It was a waste of time. The Workshop Manager just didn't get it.. he was defensive and just didnt seem to want to see where i was coming from. He got flustered with me, tried talking over me at times... in the end i just said this is clearly a waste of my time and left it at that.
The dealer can't repair the car under warranty unless Volkswagen has approved the repair which can take a few days to sort out as the warranty has expired. You've only just purchased the car, haven't even taken it in for a service yet and you tried to claim it fraudulently under the extended warranty when you knew full well that it failed before you took the warranty out so I'm not surprised that the dealer isn't going out of his way to get VW to try and fast track the claim.

Are you going to spend your time on someone who is a regular customer or someone who has dropped their recently purchased car in, tried a dodgy claim and can't understand that they can't backdate repairs nor that the guys in the workshop don't do quotes hence why their approximate price differed from the service advisors price.

If you were the original owner and/or had the car serviced there the whole time I'm sure it would have been a little quicker but VW still would have had to approve the warranty.

It's funny isn't it... if you have a customer sitting there saying they have experienced service a particular way, wouldnt you just listen to them, appreciate where they were coming from and then try get them back again so you can dazzle them the time after???
Of course the customer is always right aren't they? Enjoy your car and forget about the minor inconvenience.

This was more drama than I can be bothered with. So in Nov 2010 when the service is due, I'll drive to the other side of town I hear Barloworld are good and also Camberwell VW????

Nice to have my car back and to be able to open the door again! Its a bloody hassle not being able to open the front passenger door.

GEEZ tho I LOVE this car, its just awesome
If you're north of the city, you might want to try Bayford's new facility at Epping. They fixed my cruise control under warranty when it failed the very day before warranty expiry, but they couldn't fit it in till the next week. I just made the point about the warranty expiry when I booked it, and there were no questions asked. I had the Allianz extended cover too, but they didn't need that. Never been there before. I'd previously been a happy customer at Burwin's, but they were closer. Now I'll probably be going there all the time. They recently hosted the VWCV for a general meeting, and seem to be trying pretty hard with their new dealership (previously it was at Preston).

You can tell them I sent you,

I stated early on that I had no issue with Allianz rejecting my claim. They were well in their rights to do so. So not sure why you are using the word 'fraudulently' I never tried to get ANYTHING i wasn't entitled too. I fully disclosed that I was a new owner, I specified that the warranty expired on the 28/9 at the time of attempting to book the car in. So not sure why you are on your high horse here.

At the time of booking in the car, I wasn't told I'd have to wait days for a claim to go in. I don't see how thats my fault. They made me wait 3 days BECAUSE they couldn't see my car within its warranty period.

I raised this with consumer affairs on day 3 and they totally supported this was not adequate service being offered. I have every right to raise a claim with them over this issue.

WTF dodgy claim???? I suggest you read my first post again. There was NOTHING dodgy about my claim. I bought a car with 30 days New CAr WARRANTY left on it... 12 days before the warranty expired my door lock failed. This coincided with my also taking out the Allianz warranty. This was all explained to the dealer. I'm straight down the line... I asked for what I was deserving of. The Dealer full well knew how old my Allianz policy was, THEY tried to claim it. Had nothing to do with ME.

Right so as a NEW customer that lives around the corner from this Dealership, WHO has just signed themselves up to an Extended Wararnty that locks me into 3 years of Servicing and I shouldn't expect good customer service????

Geez I hope you aren't in the customer service line of work....

Can I also add that in the time they had my car, i rang for updates at one point I was told that my car wasn't even at the dealer and they'd never heard of it.. this is whilst it was in their CARE! I received appalling service from them!

It's funny because when I walked into essendon they never even bothered to serve me the last few times. Camberwell has always been great to me, let me test drive the GTI when I was considering it and was always very friendly. I kind of assumed they would ignore me as I'm only mid 20s and was driving a really average car at the time.

As for your claim, I'm not sure Maverick has read your original post. I found it offensive reading what he wrote about you trying to do something fruadulent or dodgy. It sounds to me that you were doing the right thing and that they didn't treat you as well as they should. Sometimes red tape gets in the way but I'm sure they could have handled it better.

Sounds like you're enjoying the car anyway . I bought mine around the same time and I know I'm still enjoying mine. Did the great ocean road the other day and it was amazing

            Have fun,

            Scott

I agree, wasn't that wrapped with essendon last time got there early, first in line and they made me wait until about 12pm for a minor service when they knew I was waiting for the car.. Might try somewhere else next time, plus they removed some paint along the edge of the bonnet which they denied.

You will find that Maverick, although very blunt in his reponses, is spot on with his reply's.
He has been an invaluable help to many members on the forum.

I don't see how your car could get a safety certificate with a front door lock that was not functional.......

Probably because the door lock failed 3 weeks after it was roadworthied? When I bought the car it worked perfectly. It failed 3 weeks later.

I'm sure maverick is very well respected and his site is wonderful but in this instance his assumptions are not correct.

You supplied the extended warranty details to the dealer when dropping the car in.

The extended warranty is an insurance policy that took effect from the day the cars factory warranty expired. The door lock was broken prior to the extended warranty taking effect and this is no different to taking out insurance on a car after you've had an accident.

                      Do you understand now?

I thought they made you wait for an appointment and it was 3 days to have VW approve the repair because the cars warranty had expired at the time the car was looked at so it had to go through the goodwill process?

??? There are plenty of other dealers out there that you could have booked the car into.

You supplied them the extended warranty number when dropping the car in!

There's no need to get so worked up over what amounts to a trivial matter, it's just unfortunate that it fell between the factory warranty and the extended or it wouldn't have occurred.

There is no point responding to you again. Yeh you pissed me off, probably because you implied that I conducted myself in a dishonest manner when you used the word 'fraudulent' multiple times. The extended warranty policy number was given to the dealer because THEY asked for it. I explained the EXACT series of circumstances when I dropped the car off to them.

My beef was always due to the poor customer service I felt I recieved. When I created this thread it was to gain feedback.

You were insulting in your first response to me. Period.

Subject closed. No point arguing with a know-it-all.

I had a similar situation myself with a dealer. I called with 14 days left on my warranty as my passenger lock was not working properly. They said they were busy for the next 3 weeks which I agreed to wait whilst reminding them my warranty would expire by then. They were OK with it.

Long story short, they refused my claim under warranty despite the above, citing that I should have bought it in before the warranty expired and that it is not their fault (even though I specified this clearly when I made the booking). This eventually got rectified through 'goodwill' through VWA, but in the end it should not have even gone that far as I specified the exact problem over the phone before the warranty expired, and agreed it was covered under warranty.

It's things like this that turn me off dealer servicing!
