not many 3-door GTIs around Canberra.

Maybe I've seen one in 10 GTIs that are 3-door. Nice to be driving around in something unusual Especially when it's also in the rare Blue Graphite colour!

The 5-doors are really popular down here!

From what I can work out, the Blue Graphite was only on the GTIs in 2008, no wonder there's not many around!

In fact, when you then take into account that there were so few 3-door GTIs sold here (only available from Nov 07 I believe), then the combination is pretty rare!

It's nice having a 3 door...looks different and is made in Germany...although I sometimes miss the convenience of the extra 2 doors

              Red 3 Door here..

purchased it over the 5 dr as it was made in Germany.

Not sure it will be better screwed together over the long term, but I prefer a German car built in Germany.

Wish I could just swap my 2-door with a fairly similar 4-door GTI (even a manual one)

I recently test drove the Mazda MPS3, the MY11 WRX and the FG XR6Turbo. While the latter 2 are good, and drive well, when I climbed back into my GTI I felt there was something 'missing' in those other cars....and I've only had my GTI for 2 months

With the WRX it was the continued poor quality interior. Why do they do it? Some kind of image thing?
The Falcon...just the little niggles about fit and finish...and the size of the car itself, and the slow kickdown of the auto (makes you appreciate the GTI's DSG!)
                The MPS3 - felt like a little boy's toy

I just had my Golf for about a month before I got it I test drove MK6 GTI, MK5 GTI 5 door and a 2005 Honda Integra Type S which in the states we call them Acura RSX type S. The Honda was nice Engine sounded good but the only bad thing was to get good engine response you had to be high in the revs, nice car but the golf is so much better. My wife had a 07 Jetta GLI DSG in the states and after that I being sold on VW. But I do see a black 3 door thats park by my apartment in Kangaroo point everyday.

I love the 3 door models! Why are they so unpopular? I've seen maybe a couple of 3dr Mk VI GTIs, out of the increasing number of the cars I see around the place.

I went the three door more for looks (bugger practicality, which why I reckon the 5 door is more popular) and it is unique to the GTI/R32.

One thing that amazes me is the child restraint hooks look like they have been used indicating the previous owners had two child seats in the back. How the hell do you put kids into a baby seat in the back of a three door!

The 3-doors are really uncommon downunder as they were only available from approx Nov 07 - end of Golf V run. Whereas the 5-doors were available from 2006 - end of Golf V model run...

In the US the 3-door GTIs seem much more popular, judging by the various forums (fora?) around

Squeezing kids into the child seats in the rear of the 3-door would have been painful...to all concerned!

My 3dr is a Mar 07 build (reg May 07) and I've definitely heard of other late 06 build 3dr GTIs so they've been around longer than since Nov 07.

                            my mistake

I re-read the original article and the 3-doors were brought into Australia in Nov 06 (not 07)
