  • Turbocharging 2.0 FSI Jetta?

I've got the 2.0 FSI Jetta engine with a measly 110kw. I know APR have turbo upgrade kits, would it be that much of a stretch to turbocharge the naturally aspirated engine, or would it be more effort than what its worth? As far as i know the only difference between the 2.0 FSI and the 2.0T is the turbo kit, or am i mistaken? Just wanting to know what my options are for more power.

    Cheers guys

Far too hard to contemplate doing a turbo conversion. Much simpler to sell up and by a turbo base car and flash it.

Yeah that's what i suspected, cheers for the reply mate. Also just realised that even if i did do that, i wouldn't have DSG, and knowing that there is something out there which is far better than my generic auto would kill it for me.

I was gonna say do it! Until I herd you have a full auto. Laaame.
I think you'd mainly need injectors and fuel pump upgrade!

        Just sell and buy again!

From my experience in turbo charging cars in the past (hondas and toyotas) there is more work then just putting a 'turbo kit' on. Involves all the nick nacks such as ECU either new or piggy back, exhaust manifold, injectors, fuel pump and deciding if you want to keep the higher NA compression ratio. If you have a full auto gear box you'll have to see how that copes with the extra power and stress you're putting onto it.

The best option is if you want to keep your Jetta would be to find a water damaged or written off GTI/TFSI and do a full engine swap.

What you *can* do to an auto is look into a auto pressure increase kit, such as B&M do. All they do is up the clutch fluid pressures, and make the changes a lot more solid. I put one onto a boggo AU ford auto, and the difference was quite apparent. Not sure of the hassle getting one to plug into a VW, but it's a pretty basic principle, I'm sure someone out there in google land has done it.

Also, anything you can do to help air in, and exhaust out, will help liberate a bit more power. A bit of modding in the airbox, and perhaps a bit of muffler work on the exhaust, such as the resonator delete from 42 draft designs, would be a good bang for your buck. At the very least pull the big plastiuc leaf grid out of the airbox below the filter, and look into any sort of lid or airbox mod that helps smooth out the airflow. 110kw out of a NA 2.0 isn't exactly terrible, it's just the weight of the Jetta that's the killer.

Thanks for the replies guys, that pressure increase sounds interesting i'll have to read up on it, thanks Greg.

Sorry Maca, i'm a petrol man haha but lets not have the petrol-diesel debate on here.

In the end i think i'll chill with the 110kw until i'm on my open license then buy either MKIV R32 or GTI. Thanks again lads.
