Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hill start!!

Hi Guys, I encountered a problem this avo for the first time....... I have a steep driveway that I tend to stop on regularly to collect mail before heading up to the house, as we know the hill start feature on the DSG equipped cars is a fantastic feature however today caused me an issue.

As I went to pull away, the brakes wouldn't release, I heard the supercharger click in and engine revs increased to almost 2000rpm before I backed off the throttle after soon realising this was not right.....I took it for another drive to test but all seems fine now...

    Has anyone encountered this?

It actually happened to me once too - I was beginning to think it was all in my head! Haha. I've got a moderate driveway that I reverse up everyday and the same thing happened, back car out put in P, handbrake on etc to close rollerdoor. Get back in go to reverse up, nothing happening, revs rise and supercharger kicked in with still no movement. Backed off, put in N and all went back to normal.

I initially thought I'd left the handbrake on but def not the case. Not too bothered about it though as it was one off occurrance in 47,000km and almost 3 years. I'd say if it happened regularly then get it sorted but it's something that I couldn't imagine be replicated.

I had a similar thing about a week ago — backed up the drive, paused a moment to peer round the parked trucks (3 construction sites within a couple of doors either side at the moment, so vision is bad and we have lots of traffic,) tried to continue out and nothing happened except the revs came up.

I hadn't moved it out of reverse, just backed off and allowed the slope to hold it as I normally do.

After a couple of tries I turned the motor off, put it in park, restarted and all was normal.

Hasn't happened again, so I've been wondering if I had a foot on the brake — I normally left-foot brake when driving auto's (don't think so, tho' and there was no protesting noise from the brakes as normally happens if you do that.)

Mine is a 103TDI + DSG, done less than 6000k so everything ought to be still new.

yesterday I was reversing out of a steep uphill car park. Used the handbrake to make sure I didn't roll forward. Ok . All going to plan. Getting a bit fast so I backed off the throttle just a little. The reverse just disengaged totally and the car started rolling forward-I instantly hit some throttle BUT it didn't catch it. Car rolling forward and I now went for the foot brake so as not to meet the fast approaching wall.
Maybe it would have engaged if I was brave enough to wait another few milliseconds??????
Think its just the DSG . I love it. Scared my wife a few times whilst parking but now we're "used to it"
