Trouble closing the hatch

Alas the years are starting to catch up on my Mark V, and recently the hatch has become really difficult to close properly (requiring a slam). It's never been in an accident, so I'm suspect it may be the aging struts.

Any tips or advice on what could be the cause?

how old is your car?

Mine's only 2 years old and I find the hatch is fairly difficult to pull down. Is your's easy to pull down, but requires a slam to shut it completely?

If struts have lost gas the door will not stay up properly.
If it needs a slam to shut the catch prob just needs io be realigned.
