  • Recommendations for door edge protector?

    hi all

am trying to find something suitable to put on the trailing edge of my 2 long doors to stop 'em getting damaged when I open onto other cars/walls!

Any ideas for something discreet and clear or black?

I've seen some chrome ones at Auto**** and Superc***

    cheers

If I ever have a dint on my doors, I know who to come looking for lol.

You shouldnt be opening your car doors onto other cars or walls in the first place! just be dilligent and you wont have to worry.

What about something like this from DucoScratch...

Duco Scratch Clear Door Edge Guard

Sort of a clear car bra for your door edges. I'm tempted to get something like it too... accidents can and have happened before.

      ....anyone tried it already?

As NabzGTI said opening doors into other cars is a low act - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

The best solution is to get a five door and you won't have those problems. Anything else is not going to protect other cars from damage.

Likewise. I have an undersized double carport, by virtual of council regs and existing boundaries. I also have a shed with nice sharp paint altering bits. And unfortunately my fellow passengers aren't always as careful as I may be around said shed in said confined space.

So what can one do? Threaten to ban family and friends? I don't think so.
I say, better to do something to mitigate damage when it inevitably happens. Educate, sure, but mitigate as well.

Just get some PPF/3M film and apply it to the door edge?

Just make sure you warm it first so it moulds to the door properly so it doesn't just unfold.

As for those talking about carports and sharp walls, a piece of 1/2x2" timber along the edge, at the height the widest point of the door is, with some deep carpet or even underlay glued to it works a treat - is still going strong in my old's carport (3rd retread though, and has been moved up/down to accomodate various cars) 30 years on.

As for other cars - what do you drive so I know to stay the #uck away from you...

                    Hi Mate,

I have the same issue, not that I go opening doors on other cars but my garage is very small. I don't know why but i guess in the 50's the entire population had beetles and mini's. Its almost impossible for me to exit the car without my door resting on the wall of my garage. I did a bit of google investigating and found this product which actually looks pretty good, its simple but could be effective?

i had an idea which may work, i am going to try it might look stupid but meh no harm in trying. I have fish tanks and the little clear hoses etc just cut of 30cm and slice down the middle and put on the door edge.
                      Might work

why don't you kick the ungrateful sods out of the car before you drive into the garage!

I do it all the time so I can park closer to a wall or column so I have extra door opening area for me and also for the soccer mums in car parks whose kids like to rip open doors.

Also don't park next to cars with child seats or SUVs - thus lowering door strike odds from others.

Door edge protectors are a good thing - but ugly.

You could try using some of that film that protects from stone chips - Altrex Light Skinz or Body Skinz.
Wack a strip on the doors edge - it's about 1mm thick. Use a hair drier to warm it up and soften it before putting on.

Ungrateful and inconsiderate sods. Bang. This week at Coles, a woman reaching for baby from the back seat of a near new Ford, threw her back door open and planted a 3 cm door-edge-shaped yellow line in the middle of my door.
And I was still sitting in my car!!! Hubby was very embarrassed when I got out and walked around.
Mk III's have a thick skin, no apparent dent. Should buff out. Love this car
