Newing do some pretty swish things with the MkV.

Eurtech have also done some good things with the MkVI.

Dotz have some jap spec'd wheels for the new scirocco which would suit as well.

GolfMkV has a thread about it,
JDM Wheels Thread!! - VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com
mmm JDM *insert pic of Homer S drooling here* - ssr's/volk and sooo many other good brands. The best thing is its easy now with companys like Import Monster to get second hand ones or new to YOUR specs.
      Cheers

Great thing about newer GTIs is you can run a heap of JDM wheels in 5x114.3 PCD (wheel stud pattern) with 'wobble bolts'.
Finding decent 18s with ET40-50 offsets isnt really that hard due to the larger JDM scene in Aus
Sometimes wish I had a newer VW just for the wheel options!
