When getting quotes for my Jetta TFSI, I was surprised at Shannons' rates - double NRMAs.

FWIW I'm with NRMA, and pay the extra $$$ ($60 I think) for my choice of repairer. I didn't like AAMI as they don't allow you to choose repairer (final decision is theirs). NRMA is one of the few I rang (AAMI, Just Cars, Shannons, RACQ, NRMA) who will still let you pick any repairer and guarantee it (if you pay extra, of course).

Sorry if this sounds like an ad for NRMA, it's not. They were the best feature-for-price I could find recently. I didn't ring QBE though, maybe I should.

Previously I had been a loyal RACQ insurer, but they wanted to charge $400 "performance excess" on the Jetta because of the turbo (as well as $450 standard excess) even for claims that were no-fault (e.g. hail). I thought that was a bit rich.

im not sure about eastern states, but here in Perth i drive a MK4 R32 and its insured with RAC. Im 25 and im paying $1080 a year. I had a Liberty B4 and that was $15000 cheaper but the insurance was 30% more expensive than for the Golf. Go figure...
