Current Faults Golf has been through. (not in any order)
Ive posted this in the hope it might help someone else.
# Clutch #
1) Pressure Plate Failure - Accelerating onto the freeway changing from 2 to 3rd. the gearbox crunched into 3rd when releasing the clutch. unable to change gears and use the clutch, stalled in the emergency lane. (John Huges Repair) $0.00 30000 kms
2) Mechanical cluck squeak - Applying the clutch and disengaging made an abnormal squeek like an unoiled hinge.
Same problem as before it was a Pre Pressure plate failure. Period was only 2 months after the plate had been replaced. Complete new clutch installed @ 40,000km (AHG Dealership) $0.00
3) The Idle noise When the cluck is not engaged the engine maintains a large working noise. It disappears once the cluck is engaged.
-- Currently due to be fixed 13th / 9 -- Problem unsure at this stage. 99000kms
# No Power #
1) No Power past 3000 rpm -- Cracked and burst hose from the air filter - 60000km plus. ( 2 week wait from overseas )
2) Same problem after being sent away to be fixed.
This time in overtaking @ 110 + loss of turbo power. Problem was the N75 Boost valve dying. Still drivable but no turbo. 60000km plus (john Huges) $0.00
3) >1000km later N75 Failed. Replaced by (AHG)
# Engine Failure #
1) EPC Engine Failure Workshop! -- Wet conditions, thought it might be flooding of electronics in the engine bay. Stopped the car to let it tick cool and give it a reset 15 min later. Same problem existed. Yet Unable to start the car normally.. To start the vehicle has to be ticked over for about 8 seconds before the motor kicks into life. 98500KMs Due to be toed for repair 13 / 9 -- Cause Unknown at this stage
2) Exhaust Warning light -- After driving home with the EPC error on this new warning became known. The car at idle struggles and miss fires. Beware i turned the vehicle off and let it sit a night. Its now got no shudders and will drive perfectly. But the warning is still present.
Once again 98500+/- KMS Due to be repairs on the 13th / 9.
3) Unable to start / No Data -- Dead vehicle a computer chip died. Its happened to my old Volvo - cost around $1000.00 plus to fix. Lucky it was covered by warranty.
# Common Faults #
!) Every service wind noise on the drives door was an issue. -- Solution the seals have holes in them which the air hits causing a whistle, close the hole with a glue substance or ask the dealership to turn the holes upside down.
!) Brakes Clunk - Noticable while coming to a stop from reversing. - Rear breaks need replacing. (yes i know this ones basic)
!) Electronic windows loose automation - Fuse. (in my case, some may vary)
!) Vehicle struggles to gain power >2000rpm 2nd gear. Try 98 Oct fuel - havn't had the issue since. (i.e. round-abouts and speeding away )
!) Excess tire wear. Please check your alignment as often as you can ( Tyre specialists say ever 15000 kms. ) But FWD depending on how you use your tyres ie like myself replace the front with new and check the rears rather than rotating. (Conti's will only last 15000 - 35000 depending on your driving. (They are very soft ). The FWD if not alligned properly will cause huge wear on the tyres as i found the insides were being chewed while the outsides of the tread were like new. (( Yes this is your ongoin maintanance.. Constant pressure checks Once per 2 weeks and tyre checks least every 6 months )).
!) If you find you are not getting the power and / or feel the engine is running hot ( Mate got a temp warning ), rather that take it to a dealer and waste your money. Check the air filter is clean of junk and hasnt got a plastic bag reducing airflow (( Sorry Stu had to say this ))..

ALL IN ALL
Yes i have had a bad run, but the good comes with the bad.
My Golf has been though hell and back. some weekends i clock upto 3000kms traveling... Its just clocked over 24 months old and done 99000 +/- Kms.. So its been a work horse. Ive been picky with how it runs, always getting the niggles looked at. Yes there are more faults you will see, but for 99,000kms its been a dream and still is. Its a pleasure to dive on long trips and you end up getting to the location and wanting to drive more.
Also even though ive had these issues i believe this car will go onto do 300,000 kms easy! and keep pleasing who ever is driving it. P.S hopefully me!!
I ask if you want to add bits and pieces please do, but im not a techie or a car know-it-all, im just an average joe who bought a beauty of a car (nothing like it) and thought id pass on some info.
Cheers
