  • Gday everyone - new to this forum with new Jetta in tow

    Hi all
Just found this web site and forum - which is a most excellent thing

I bought an A3 Audi TDi DSG in Sep 05, but am getting rid of it due to high cost of payment per month (I get a car allowance, but too much is still too much).

After much thought and research, I placed an order with Barloworld in Melbourne for a Jetta, TDi, DSG, Blue Graphite, Black Leather with 18" rims and Sports Suspension.

Will get delivery in 2 to 3 weeks.

Went with the same motor and gearbox as the Audi simply because it is the most beautiful marriage of fuel efficient motor and responsive gearbox I have ever come across.

With all the features of the Jetta, the Audi was left wanting in a big way plus I am saving just over $500 per month in repayments!

I am pulling out the cd/radio and dropping in a Pioneer AVIC-HD3 to round the car off.

Hopefully I am making the right decision re the Jetta purchase - only time will tell I suppose. Was also interested in reading the different costings for insurance. I will have to do some research into that as well now.

Anywho, hi to all, hope to gleen some information from everyone here re the Jetta and its good and bad points.

    Cheers,
    Geoff.

    Geoffp hi
I think maybe you have my Jetta.
Ordered mine and was told they have one in stock and then
told me sorry none, so i think I will be waiting a few months.
Checkout the insurance thread I submitted re: insurance and
let us know how cheap you get your insurance.
I noticed other members with GTI's have a thread aswell and
they have insurance premiums cheaper than i have been quoted
    for the jetta TDI.

Well , seems like everyone is getting their Jetta's before me
          heh heh. drats.

I haven't really looked, but is it a straight forward swap from the standard head unit to the pioneer unit you're looking at?
Or is there more work involved..

Good points - i test drove the Jetta and definitely found the suspension not too firm/harsh as mentioned in other reviews.
Plus - the big boot .. big plus when ferrying golfing equipment around.

Not too many negatives i can think - apart from the min 98 octane fuel required (NA for you being Diesel) - might be an issue when travelling off the beaten path.
          Servicing - 60,000 km i've seen around the $1000 - $1200 mark.

            Hi Neil,
Barloworld had my car in their stock at Altona - sorry if I pinched yours (did you order from Barloworld?)

Yep, I will post the insurance proposals I get for my car. I have full no claim, etc and am 47. My Audi cost me $96.09 per month thru Allianz, so I expect to pick up a few bucks savings over that.

            Gday trippyfoo,
Autobarn said it would cost $150 to install the head unit. There is a little bit of mucking around connecting it to the car electrics as they need to connect to the hand brake and speedo connections but nothing major. As the headunit in the Jetta is also a 2 din unit the Pioneer AVIC just slots straight in. Haven't asked about the mobile phone antenna side of things for the AVIC. I suppose it is inbuilt, but will have to find out - no biggie one way or the other with an antenna.

I actually found the Jetta's suspension to be a bit looser than my Audi A3. My wife said riding in the Audi was like getting into a rally car, it was that stiff - which I didn't mind at all.
Since I was used to a stiff suspension I therefore went for the lowered sports suspension on the Jetta. Don't mind a few extra bumps if the handling is nice and tight. ALSO, the big boot was one of the straws that broke the camels back in favour of the Jetta over the Golf. Now we can go away with the family on trips and not feel like a can of sardines

And to everyone else, thank you for the warm welcome.

Once the car is delivered and I have the Pioneer AVIC in, I will throw up some photos - piccies are always a must

                  Hi Geoff.
Purchased mine through Classic at chatswood.
The only blue grafite they could find was in vic and by the time
I came back from the test drive it was gone.
Have one on back order, unless you decide not to purchase. haha.
Have only been on this site a few days and have found it very educational

K, not me then. I ordered on the 9th.
The salesman did say that every dealership have their own stock. They are under no obligation to swap stock between dealerships. This is especially true if a dealership has a "hot" car - one with popular specs/option fitted. They will hold onto it as they have a better chance of selling it and making a quicker profit.
                          Good luck with your wait.

                            Geoff hi.
Maybe I was hoping it was you, and you would feel guilty and give me
                            first option on the jetta.
                            Anyway enjoy.

Sorry Neil - tis not I...

Just talked with Chris from Barloworld today - seems the car he found at Altona was already sold the previous day, it just wasn't marked as sold in their system - bugger.

Good news - same spec'd car is hitting the docks in Sydney tomorrow, so I sill still get the car in about 2 weeks. That will give me time to arrange for the Pioneer AVIC-HD3 install via the dealer - that way I can put the AVIC into my lease. yehaaaaaaa
