  • Missing Service/Warranty Issues

Thinking about buying a GT Sport TDI, its done 55,000 , the only thing that bugs me is that the guy missed the 45k service and I am wondering how that might affect the new car warranty, he reckons he changed the oil at 48k but not any filters, but has spoken to Burwood VW and was told "it's only a minor service so it won't affect the warranty".

Does not sound right to me, anyone have an opinion or even better experience based on fact?

BTW it's a Black 08 down in Hasting's Vic, even better if anyone knows of it?

    Cheers

It depends on what you claim for. A claim for some trim won't be affected but a claim for an engine related item may be.

If the owner changed the oil with incorrect oil (which is possible as they couldn't even be bothered with the filter or the service) you can kiss your engine warranty goodbye and may end up with problems down the track.

Burwood VW aren't in a position to make a call on the warranty as it will ultimately be up to Volkswagen.

It's possible that the correct oil was used but I'm not sure I'd be willing to take a chance unless the price was really good.
