starter making loud clacking noise - when hot

hi all

is it normal for a GTI's starter motor to sound 'different' when starting from hot, rather than from cold?

In mine it sounds fairly normal when starting first thing in the day. However later when I restart, say after 30-60 mins, the starter makes a very short, loud 'clacking' noise just 0.5 second after the engine starts.

Before I take it into dealer, yet again(!), could someone let me know if this is normal on the GTI. Never had it on any previous car.

Mine's only done 23,000km

Sounds like the solenoid might need investigating (or perhaps the ignition switch isn't releasing quick enough and the starter's getting power when it shouldn't.)
