  • help...2 door GTI driver's seat not locking back into original position

    hi all

something odd happened this arvo to my 2-door. Normally what happens is that when I tilt and slide the seat to access the rear seat, when I slide the base back it stops at the correct 'pre-set' position.

However today it made a dragging/ratchety sound and since then it doesn't 'remember' whatever position I set the chair in. It's not making the ratchety sound again but when I do the slide/tilt it just slides all the way back, rather than stopping at whatever position I'd set the driver's seat in beforehand.

Does anyone know a simple mechanical reset for this? I can't have broken anything I hope

    please help

    thanks

    solved! I think

I think I managed to solve this...left the thread on here in case anyone needs to know the fix

Stepped out into the cold Canberra night and after playing around with both seats, noticed that there's a stainless steel 'locking' mechanism which appears to stay in the outboard seat track in whatever position you set the seat in. (Like a brake)

On my driver's seat (the problem one) it seemed to have gone too far back, and wasn't being 'picked up' by the seat adjustment mechanism. I lifted this metal bit and moved it forward in the track. Now it seems to have been picked up by the mechanism and is okay.

Still worried as to how it happened so easily...a combination of not having the seat fully tilted forward and yet sliding it.

    cheers

I would get it inspected by a dealer. Not something to be taken lightly.

If it has an issue in an accident you will end up under the dash.
