  • What's this button there for? (well...the socket in the armrest storage, actually)

    hi all

at the bottom of my fairly small and useless storage bin under armrest, there's a small (perhaps 2.5mm) socket. Is that to connect an Ipod or something?

    If so:

    1. do I need a special VW cable, or any old ebay cable?
    2. what cable am I looking for?
    3. do song titles/controls go through the head unit (stock radio with cd stacker)

Doesn't have much/any detail in the manual

    thank you

    might be the Aux in...

I have it too but since I don't have any iPod (I'm one of the few dinosaurs left that resist digital music revolution)
I have never tested one. So no idea on cable.

so it's just an analog connection I guess? Won't show any titles/track info on screen?

        cheers

correct, input of music only. The screen of the RCD500 will show "AUX IN". To operate an iPod or MP3 player via the connection, you need to hold the "CD" button on the radio facia until "AUX IN" is displayed. Press play on your MP3/iPod player, and voila. Sound Gala works on this as well, but I find that I need to really wind the volume up on the unit and the iPod to get any decent noise. However, it is a viable (read: cheap) option to an MDI.
