  • My car is making a wind noise..

Im 2007 gti is making a weird wind noise near my drivers 3rd quarter window/wheel area. At first i thought it was a plastic bag stuck near my tyre but when i checked it wasn't that. It comes on and off, and i thought it may be rubber seals in the rear quarter windows not being properly sealed. Also i have like 3 rattles interior wise, one annoying one in the steering wheel column, one in the front dash speaker compartment and one in my passenger door. Can all these be addressed under warranty or will the stealer's look at me like a fool/sook ?Anyway my car is still under VW extended warranty.

    Thanks for you time.

I think rattles are covered for the first year only from memory?

have a chat to your dealers about the rattles. Youre always best to get them to check it out before you tear into a car yourself.
Sometimes if the door mirror has been knocked and isnt in place properly it can make a loud wind noise. Try folding the mirror in and then back out to locate it properly. If not sometimes the door can need adjustment. Not likely if it has only just started happening recently though.

I think the front centre dash 'speaker' is actually the indirect air vent. And yes, mine rattles like crazy!

You can carefully prise the top vent off using something like a stiff credit card (old one) and then you can line the edges with thin rubber/felt. Follow this excellent procedure:

VWVortex.com - DIY Air Diffuser Rattle

Mine (2008 GTI) also rattles around the piece just below that that goes around the 2 main vents. Really annoying...

From reading the warranty it doesn't seem to say that rattles are only covered in the first year, so you might have luck with the dealer. Though sometimes it's best to try it yourself

Regarding the wind noise. It could just be the high prevailing winds around at the moment. I know my car makes a terrible wind noise just over the top of the windscreen...but I can't see anything missing so am hoping it's just the strong prevailing winds hitting at an odd angle

        cheers
