  • do your doors and tailgate creak/squeak when you go over kerbs...gently?

Noticed that when driving at low speed over speed bumps (and general roads, like carparks) I can hear a creaking that seems to come from the front corner of the vehicle ... but its hard to localise. Its not a squeak or a rattle but a creak.

Recently had front strut bearings replaced under warranty ...

Cannot hear it at normal driving speed, only when crawling.

It sounds like something needs a bit of lubrication, or it's possible that the strut hasn't been positioned properly when reassembled. My advice would be to take it back to the dealer and tell them it's only happened since they carried out the strut work.

Yeah I will try and get back to the dealer. I must admit I don't think it started immediately after the strut replacement but that's the only recent work done. Its just weird that it only happens at very low speed.

It's probably still doing it at higher speeds but is more than likely muffled by other road noise. Sometimes working out the cause of these sort of noises is a bit of trial and error but a can of WD40 is a cheap and easy way to sometimes pin point the issue and if it doesn't resolve it then at least you know where the problem lies

Front lower control arm bushes - there's a TSB on it. Had them done on both my Jetta & Passat. Send me your email address & I'll send a copy of it.

            Email sent and thanks.

Will be dropping by the dealer next week too.

Found this video on youtube which describes my creak perfectly:

              hi all

my 2008 3-door is having door alignment problems on both sides.

THe dealers did their rough adjustments, but the door and tailgate still make a rubbery-creaking noise when I turn into my driveway which is inclined upwards.

I've never had this on 4wd wagons, or sedans before, but it sounds like the doors/tailgate are moving slightly on the rubber seal as the body flexes to take the slope.

Is this normal for the GTIs? (esp 3-door)? or should I keep making a fuss at the dealer?

              cheers

Do a search, this has been answered before (current thread in the mark 6 forum as well).

Either lubricate your rubbers and/or remove wax from where the rubbers make contact.

Well kudos to Austral VW, they looked at it right away and new bushes will be fitted next week. I didn't want to show them the TSB unless they couldn't work out what it was (I know service guys hate the "I found this on the internet" approach). Happy.

should the rubber seals lube be done as part of the dealer's yearly service? My service was just done 2 weeks ago and the doors and tailgate are still making the 'squelching' noise

                              cheers
