Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Why are the maintenaces scheduels intervals different in USA compared to Australia, in the USA the sevices are every 10,000 miles or 16,000km but some other items are not done there so frequently?

Because it's a different country with different conditions and different requirements!

It's just like Australia get's a different spec of vehicle with additional cooling systems for our weather and the USA gets a different pack with additional heating for their weather.

The German car service centre recommends the Vw be serviced every 20,000miles /40,000 60,000 80,000 and 105,000 so here in Australia some dealers are recommending every 7,500km but in USA its every 30,000km for long life service,so who make the most money out of servicing your car?

You're confused. That website clearly states that MAJOR services are every 20,000miless (32,000kms) just like here in Australia.

Minor services are every 10,000miles (16,000kms) just like here in Australia.

This is even listed on that same website - Oil Change for VW and Audi vehicles. Oil & Filter Service.

"The oil change interval recommended most often by Volkswagen and Audi is every 10,000 miles when your vehicle is driven under ideal conditions. Most experts and enthusiasts agree that changing your oil at no more than 5,000 miles is a much better idea, especially if your engine is turbocharged, has higher mileage or is a TDI turbo diesel."

As you can see they even recommend a 7,500km oil change interval!

There is also no mention of long life servicing, you're confused on this front as well as long life servicing (really it's variable servicing) is different to having extended fixed intervals.

Take a look at the Volkswagen's recommendations for both countries as well, the service intervals are the same. The website you listed just calls the service intervals slightly different names!

In England you can get up to 20,000miles or 30,000km longlife service or 24 months using full synthetic oil.

UP TO is the key word and this is not available in this country for the reasons I mentioned before. England is a different country with different conditions and different climate.

If you're too tight to pay to maintain your Volkswagen maybe you should buy a car that would better suit you like a Hyundai. You seem intent on proving that Volkswagen are forcing Australians to service their car more often than other countries when this is not the case as you've been shown.

              This thread is now closed!

Maverick explained the reason why we have servicing intervals that we have, the best it could be explained and the rest is in the owners manual.
How ever there is no need to tell people that they should buy Hyundai.
Some people are more environmentally green than other, so it is not just about money.
