Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • loose windscreen wiper mechanism

    Hey guys

Noticed a strange clunking sound from the windscreen wipers last night when they were running and since then the whole wiper mechanism has been making noises when going over bumps, potholes etc. I had a good look at it today and and it wasn't a result of a loose bolt on the wiper arm, but rather the whole mechanism is moving. Does anyone know where it is bolted down? I wasn't able to get the wipers off as a need a pusher or some sort but im hoping that i might be able to get access under the plastic veneer without removing it.

    Cheers

You'll need to removed the wiper arms by popping the caps off with a small screwdriver, loosening the two 13mm nuts, and using a wiper arm puller to get the arms off the knurled splines, because they are f-ing tight!

Once you've done all of that, then you can remove the windscreen cowling, which clips into the bottom of the windscreen. Once that is off, there's two 10mm bolts roughly in the centre of the bottom of the windscreen, and a T30 Torx bolt on the driver's side.
